Entry level SRE roles and apprenticeships

I understand that being an SRE (site reliability engineer) is generally a mid or senior position. So I have to ask, are there notable SRE apprenticeships or development programs for entry level/new grads? Here is I came across so far: linkedin SRE apprenticeship (applications now closed): https://careers.linkedin.com/reach/SRE I was also looking at the Systems Platform engineer I position at Mastercard which seems like it would have been good for a new grad (no longer available, but you can find similar positions on their careers page). Additionally I saw that IBM has devOps apprenticeships/entry level positions. Finally, I was considering the site reliability engineering development program at MassMutual which no longer has a active link for me to share but I can tell you the details if you ask me. I know that it would involve taking the required classes for the software engineering certificate at Boston university and working with AWS, kubernetes, python/java. Thoughts? Is trying to start out as an SRE a bad move?

No need to be an "apprentice" SRE if you're already in tech. Just read some books on linux and pass the interview. SRE at linkedin is just editing configs and asking for help from developers anyways.

Don’t be an SRE at entry level. Instead be a SWE and switch after you get to L5/L6 if you enjoy the work more.

I think my issue is that I am already pretty confident I would enjoy it more than being a general SWE. Already got an offer too. Should I re-access and try being a SWE first despite that? My understanding is that SRE is hard to break into.

SRE is not hard to break into, and hard to break out of. You should reassess, and try to get a infrastructure/Systems Generalist SWE position. You’ll pick up SRE concepts naturally while writing software.
