Is TikTok as bad as they make it seem?
Can anyone on the sales org confirm the culture there? All I read are great eMarketer articles on the growth and it seems like the only company experience positive ad growth/ revenue right now. So is it as bad as they say? Do you hate working there?
I work here and don’t hate it at all. There have been some bumps along the way, but not really anything you wouldn’t expect from a start up/young tech company. I think about how terrible Amazon used to be (and in some cases, still is) and TikTok doesn’t seem any different. If anything, it’s better than it’s competitors in some aspects. The training (from my experience) has been excellent. Lots of opportunities for engagement. My coworkers are friendly. Policies sometimes shift quickly, new products frequently. But it’s no 996 or whatever. I also hardly have late meetings or meet with China/HQ and I’m on a pretty high performing team.
Management sucks. No 996. New tech stack and lots of high impact projects available. Perks are ok.
It is terrible. Do not come! Look at the attrition and pulse scores on blind.
Engineering isnt too bad. Sales (GBS) i heard sucks
I hate how people generalize that TikTok is terrible, especially those that haven’t worked here. I have enjoyed my time here so far and have learned a lot. It’s far from perfect but this experience will only help me grow in my career.

My girlfriend interviewed there, and her potential future manager literally asked if she is okay to work on weekends and nights. I think that's enough to answer your question.
Fuck ByteDance. It’s a shithole that breeds toxic people. I can’t wait to leave this place. Your management and coworkers can be rude as hell. Every capable and good colleague I have had so far left after giving their 1 year. There is a clear division between non-Chinese and Chinese in this company. Your Chinese colleagues will always know more than you, through their closed chats, or WeChat groups. Do not come here if you don’t want to end up a toxic, overworked, and depressed, asshole like most of the people with long tenures here. P.S. there are good teams here, but they are extremely rare. More and more people are aware of what’s going on at ByteDance, and they refuse to accept the offers. Look it up. We are struggling to hire FAANG-level folks.
