I started at meta in October 2021 as IC4 out of a PhD. My stocks were granted based on September averages, the highest average for a month for the company, at about $364 I think. So I got fucked. I have a Google offer and the recruiter has been reaching out asking if I want to reconsider. I’ve ignored their emails, but I’m considering bouncing. My FB and Google Offers were similar with Google being a little higher the first 2 years due to frontloading though I got a higher sign on at FB so first year is probably about the same. FB was like 160/350/100 I think and google was 155/333/75 I think. But there are some pros and cons. Pros: 1. Higher TC temporarily. That’s the only pro. I don’t care about the WLB difference Con: 1. I’m probably bouncing to finance in 2023 or 2024. I can’t see myself being at google long term. So that’s potentially 3 companies in a 2-3 timeframe. I would probably go to finance maybe in 2024 or 2025 if I stay at meta. 2. I can probably hit IC5 in late 2022 or early 2023, and I also like my team and the stuff I do here. I have no clue what I’d work on at google. And I probably can’t hit IC5 by the time I bounce. I feel like I’d be resetting my career too. 3. I have to repay some of my sign in bonus and I think I have to use my after tax money to repay it so it’s not a dollar for dollar trade off. 4. Assuming meta stocks stay at 180-200 this year, I'm losing around $40k TC this year due to stocks, so like $25-30k after tax money. That's probably not a lot in the grand scheme of things (but in isolation it's a lost, i mean i could do a lot with an extra $2k per month), and I got like a bunch of cash from my relocation benefits (like $30k after tax money and $20k before tax money), so I'm trying to comfort myself by thinking of that lmao. Based on this analysis I feel like it’s better to stay at meta but I’m anxious about the earning calls in a week… If I do decide to go to google, can I renegotiate a higher offer?
Lol this is the embodiment of toxic TC obsession. Also recently accepted offer at Meta but not this obsessed with TC.
Why bouncing to finance? TC, I guess? People are starting to realize it is the last bastion of prestige.
Higher TC and I'd go for quant research so I get to do some mathy stuff (hopefully, which is a plus for me. I don't just want to be a code monkey for ever, though most QR is really just like 90%+ SWE)

Rahul Gandhi is poison but the people who believe in him are a lot worse
Funny thing is if google falls like meta then you would have worked for a year without RSU with lower tc
What do you mean without RSU
I mean your rsus are unveste so delayed payment means you worked without it for 6 months
