I mined some bitcoins back in 2011. I just booted up that old computer this morning and saw I have about 300 bitcoins on that computer. So that's it? About $15 million and I am ready to retire? No more: given 10 million raindrops and the positions and velocities of each raindrop, find an algorithm to catch the most raindrops in 1 minute given a constant acceleration, and you have a solution? Good, but it is not optimal, our research team found that optimal solution in a month, why can't you do it in 30 minutes, "we are not moving forward"... that type of crap any more? P.S. there is no need to hack into my computer, as I have printed out that private key, opened up a bank's safe deposit box this afternoon and put it in already. I took the computer offline, and will remove the private key and destroy the hard drive tomorrow just to be safe. (P.S. I just did... just to be safe). #retirement

That’s it buddy, enjoy.
Why not sell half at least and get the money out. Let the 100 or so ride for more
I think "enough is already ok" -- why take more risk? But I think I also can sell 2/3, so $10 million will be enough to retire, but for the other 100 coins I can let it ride and don't have to care too much about the future price
Holy crap. That could be worth $150million in about 10 years
if I do indeed keep 100 coins for later, then the $5 million can go to $50 million... but I guess I can buy a bigger house then... $3 to $4 million cannot buy that big a house in Palo Alto... it'd be quite nice if it can be a $11 or $12 million house
Why would you want to retire in Palo Alto?
Mind transferring a few? For good cause though
you are at Amazon... you can ask Bezos for it
Wow! That's awesome 😍
Wtf is wrong with you? You're considering retiring in the bay area for what reason? I'm not saying move to Salt Lake city or something, but there are incredible places to retire here in the states and they don't have to come with the bay area price tag.
that might be true... I was thinking if it is some where in Europe, Northern Europe, or Asia, there might be houses that is $1.2 million and is as good as house that is $12 million in Palo Alto... or it could be $800k in Asia... so why do I need that much money for? Or if in Florida, probably $2-$3 million can buy a house that is as good as a $12 million house in Palo Alto
Speaking from my own experience, you should be able to find quite lavish living in Orlando, FL for even just 1m, if that's what you're into. Depending on what you value in retirement, you could certainly make due with 3 million to retire on (1 for house, 2 for investments which you will draw the interest from for normal expenses). All I know is that there's nothing in Palo Alto that justifies 12 million dollars.
congrats. now get the f outta here
If you're in California, you will owe more than $5.5 million in taxes on that capital gain.
Yeah turn off that computer and boot it up in texas😂 and yeah we did not read anything
@holdemm what do you mean in texas? like nobody cares, nobody knows in texas?
Congrats!
