Watched Blackberry yesterday (the rise and fall) - such a great movie! They were walking into Google and Apple handing out $10 million dollar contacts to recruit engineers! They went from having 45% of the mobile phone market share to having 0 during the mid Y2K’s which I knew but for anyone that didn’t, there you go. #misc #apple #google #meta #microsoft #amazon
Is it on Netflix?
Not sure. Watched on Apple TV. Here’s what I found …
Great movie but certainly take it with a grain of salt. It's only loosely based on what went down. I really hope Lazaridis and/or Bassilie release an official biography one day though. Would love to read it. And I wonder if googles android team would have such a big Waterloo presence if not for the demise of blackberry? Good engineers for the pickins..
True!! I was researching everything in the movie the whole way through. That’s the best thing about movies based on actual events 🥳
There was a book called, "BlackBerry: The Inside Story of Research in Motion". I never read it but I got it for free because they were giving them away at work. Probably because no one bought it.
Thanks for the rec! Always wondered what happened inside.
I was there Gandalf. I watched the whole thing fall apart from the inside. So many incompetent decisions.
Cool being part of history. I was there when Washington Mutual (Corporate in Seattle) failed around the same time (2008ish). My boss at the time went to Blackberry when everyone got fired. Then she was there when the 💩 hit the fan at Blackberry. Looking back I don’t get why she went to Blackberry in 2009 considering the writing was on the wall about what BB’s future would be. She lost her job there too obvs.
