What’s the comp like? Preferably breakdown of base, bonus, carry (is there?) or anything else? Their recruiters reached out twice, said no, just reached out a third time and I’m thinking I should consider it. Context: ex top tier consulting, former entrepreneur with a fairly successful business, currently in a senior-mid leadership position at a FAANG (the good one 😉). Only reason I’d consider it is if the comp was a REALLY attractive coz otherwise doing great and have a very good work life balance.
My dad just retired from Bridgewater, there’s no company culture but the pay was great with good benefits.
Great company. Work culture is 100 times worse than Amazon’s. Unless you have a ‘nothing left to lose’ attitude, not worth going there, you’ll quit quite fast. Been there done that.
Did you guys really practice and enjoy the utopian “Principles” or is it all just all fluff?
Actually practice the principles. There’s a layer of fluff to the book but it’s essentially what one would look at the leadership principles at Amazon. That’s where things start differing- BW principles are a really interpreted in day to day work, ethics is paramount. The Amazon principles are only for the interviewing part. If you’re young and can thrive in an insane environment, BW is for you. A lot of people don’t survive the fist year or few months. If you survive the first year, and then cross 2 years, you’ll thrive in any Banking industry company or in leadership roles anywhere else. You really need to have a ‘nothing left to lose’ and ‘is that the best you can do’ sorts attitude to succeed there. I loved every bit of my decade there, money was crazy good (a magnitude better than what MS pays), but as I started getting a little bit more family oriented and as we were planning for kids, I knew I had to move out. The job there was my life, and if I needed to make life outside it, I knew I had to move. Having made my FU money in the first 2 years there, I’m happy here :)
