I have an offer from Outset Medical - 150k base + 10% bonus + stocks However they're offering a Full Stack Software Engineer(no bands specified) position. They say they can fast track me for a promotion in 1 year but can't pay high right from the start since I dont have that much React experience. I like their stack + the opportunity to grow skills in AWS services (which is progressively reqd in market). I got a reject from Twilio recently citing lack of cloud experience, so that AWS slills part is kind of appealing for me in OutsetMedical Current Title: Sr. Software Engineer Current YoE: 5 yrs Current TC: 175k (base + bonus), Stocks 🥜 How do I negotiate or do I even need to consider this offer? #tech #salaries #salarycomparison #salarynegotiation #softwareengineersalary #growth #career
Don’t take it, for one you’re getting down leveled and lowballed. For two, just because it’s AWS doesn’t mean anything, there is also Azure and GCP so what? If you want to have a good future proof skill learn Kubernetes, it’s not just a skil that’s even highly sought after internally here in Amazon but it will also teach you about how Cloud and Distributed Systems work.
I think the fast track to promotion line from companies is BS like 99% of the time. There’s no guarantee you’ll even be _considered_ for promo in a year, let alone granted one
Anyone who uses that bs “your on a fast track for promotion” garbage is talking out of their 🍑. Titles and Money/ Stocks are the only thing they can give you that your even sure youI’ve actually got.
This is a line 💩 companies use to try to lowball you. I’ve only seen it from immature, low paying, cheap companies. Don’t encourage the behavior by selling yourself short (literally)
get the promotion in writing, there is some risk with the company but there is upside as well
Seems like you don’t have enough leverage to negotiate for a higher pay. Kinda tough
