Greenhouse software hiring freeze?
Finished the onsite with Greenhouse and met the HM, recruiter said feedback was great and it sounded like they were going to extend an offer. But now they're saying there's been some "internal discussions" and they won't be able to give me an update until next week. Is Greenhouse still hiring? Am I just their backup candidate?

They placed a two week freeze on all hiring and spending so they can do accurate forecasting for what the new level of “normal” is. We’ve been through this cycle without layoffs — they have made some major cuts (getting rid of offices, cutting travel, cutting training budgets) so they wouldn’t have to let folks go. I do see some sales and PS folks possibly being cut. Recruiter isn’t blowing smoke up your ass — it’s not the way we do things here.

So sorry you got stuck in this spot. As someone else mentioned, they’re doing budget adjustments and froze hiring just to keep the ground from moving beneath them.

Reach back out to your recruiter — while I haven’t heard of any specific freezes continuing (and I’m actually out for a few days because my mother-in-law passed away and haven’t had work email because i flew to/from China), they should be able to get you specifics. If you don’t get an answer by Friday, feel free to shoot me a DM and I’ll try to chase an answer down internally.
Thank you! I did email the recruiter but no response yet. They've been pretty good about emailing before the end of the week, so I'll just try to be patient haha
I think you might hear back from your recruiter soon, or should atleast bump up your thread with them in a couple days if they don’t reply back.

Update: the role is no longer available 😞 unclear if that means a hiring freeze, or just reduced headcount. Thanks to all the greenhouse folks who responded, I hope that y'all can make it through without any layoffs
