It’s a shame Biden was forced to follow Trump’s plan for Afghanistan and treaty with the Taliban to the letter, but his hands were tied. Clearly the Taliban could have crushed us with their vastly superior air force if we hadn’t withdrawn. Also they might have sanctioned us and cut us off from the many valuable exports of Afghanistan for violating the peace agreement. And I’m sure the international community would have been super angry at us for cheating the Taliban too.
It was pretty clear how much Afghanistan cared about preserving the government the US setup by how fast it collapsed. The US wasn't getting a whole lot out of it either. I never liked Biden much but he's not really shirking responsibility here as your sarcasm implies.
I'm not mad about leaving Afghanistan, I am kinda upset about giving them all our free stuff, though. From pictures lately, if you squint, Taliban forces could be US police department forces now, since they share the same gear.
The way to avoid that would be to just completely backstab Afghanistan and steal our suff back on the way out. Or ask Afghanistan to cut a surrender deal that gets our stuff back first (not sure why they would care). But we gave the weapons to a supposedly democratic country so we can't just take our stuff and leave. Not a good look any way you slice it.
Yeah that's a good point. Biden was still saying there wouldn't be any scenes of embassy rooftop evacuations like a week before there were. Was it a lie and they knew, or is our intelligence and ground level Intel/knowledge so inept that they didn't foresee the Afghan army folding like lawn chairs? Sadly those are our choices: blatantly lied to or gross incompetence.
Poor Biden! Tsk tsk tsk tsk...
He botched it.
All he had to do was evacuate before starting to withdraw. Hold the perimeter, get our allies out, then get our troops out. It wasn’t that difficult and he could still have met the desired timeline. What we’re witnessing now is incompetence on a scale we’ve never seen before. And Biden keeps refusing to take responsibility. Not a great look.
Idk a president telling his supporters to inject bleach during a global pandemic might be more incompetent than pulling out improperly from a war we could never win or do well.
Everyone knew that to be a joke.
Biden is ending this quagmire, finally. GOP wants to stay indefinitely for their donors to profit, so they are freaking out.
Dint he override Trump on the Paris accord and rejoin? Biden himself says the buck stops with him and that he bears responsibilities why are the liberal loser still blaming Trump??? I don't get it.
Trump released 5000 Taliban fighters and leaders from prison, left 2500 US troops in the whole country, and negotiated returning Taliban to power without Afghan government. That is the historical record. What don't you get?
We don’t get why Biden had to go along with it and follow through with no modifications despite the near certainty of disaster. That’s what we don’t get. Nobody is claiming that blindly following Trump’s plan was ever a good idea.
Trump (or any President with half a brain) would not have pulled troops out while leaving Americans and our closes allies behind, not to mention $85 billion worth of military equipment to the goat-humping radical taliban. Biden is a total and utter failure with blood on his hands. A disgrace.
Trump did exactly that though.
