Should I bother for Meta E6 NYC

I’m contemplating going through the interview process for Meta in NYC at E6. I really don’t feel like spending the time doing medium & hard leetcode problems, nor do I want to practice the 60 hrs of interview questions and “tell me about a time…” scenarios. Should I just cancel the interview process? I’ve already been through the initial recruiter screening. I have 10+ yoe and $650k ToC, living in an expensive region. I’ve never worked for FAANG, but have had lead engineer roles at several globally recognized brands. I’m starting to feel too old for the big-tech/start-up grind bullshit. One good year of comp at Meta would probably get me to the retirement goals I have, at which point I would just fuck off. So my question is: is 1 year of grinding worth it at Meta, and how soul-crushing should I expect it to be? Or should l be unrealistically selective during the hardest hiring period of the decade, and try to find a slower-paced, more enjoyable job to tide me over for the next 3 to 5 years?

I don't think Meta E6 would be that much higher than 650k such that you only need to work there one year to retire (?)

I’m close to retirement anyways.

Meta BlindBndit Apr 11

??? OP how much do you think you’d be making as E6 at Meta? It wouldn’t be much higher than 700K which is hardly a bump up from what you’re currently making. It sounds like you think Meta E6 pays $1.2M+ or something lol

Why are you looking for a new role?

Something far more interesting than the tedium boringness I presently face at work.

Meta wfu007 Apr 11

Boring is good if you are planning to retire...Meta is on like hunger games and I don't think you would enjoy it

AMD archeon1 Apr 10

If you can achieve the retirement goal in 1 year then go for it. You can always leave meta and go somewhere else after 1 year. As far as interview prep goes don't be too hard on yourself and just give it a decent shot.

Bloomberg VBTU44 Apr 10

Is it even worth it if your TC is already 650k? What would you expect at E6 offer at Meta to be? Levels shows an average of 770 which doesn't seem to be a difference maker?

I just don’t like the startup culture at my current employer, considering the boring workload doesn’t make it worthwhile.

Google coG3c Apr 10

is that without stock appreciation? You can see some entries >1m brining the average up.

Google Akira88 Apr 10

If you already make 650k, and Meta E6 pays 770-800k as seen in levels.fyi, and you only need 1 year (800k) of income to retire, then you shouldn't bother. Just work at your current job for 15 months instead of Meta for 12. The extra stress of learning a new environment, team, stakeholders, duties, tools, etc, plus interview prep, is probably less than the stress of working another 3 months at a place you're already comfortable with.

New meta offers aren't coming in at 770-800k, that's people whose stock has appreciated. Most E6 offers are <700k unless you have something to compete with.

I recently had a E6 loop, TC range for Seattle I was told to be 550k-ish as the average.

Workday Mat20 Apr 10

Okay if you don’t feel like interview prepping just say no thanks and have somebody who is excited about the role take it

New
anotherdum OP Apr 10

Why, is someone who is excited about the role going to have a better career at Meta than me?

Workday Mat20 Apr 10

They will work you like a dog. Work like dog + excited about meta = happy worker with fulfilling life Work like dog + apathetic about meta = major depressive disorder

Bloomberg l6ordone Apr 10

I am doing the same. But i may have an unpopular opinion. Interview prep makes you a better person. Tell me about a time: this will remind you where you stand now. Take a mock session with staff + level. Preparing for it will make you a good communicator. if you haven't been doing any of the leadership (xfn) actions, better start doing it. It will help your current roles. Preparing for coding and system design helps in a similar capacity. I can say I make better decisions now coding and design. Including my typing speed improved in the last 2 years, I have become an above average touch typist from a 2-finger typist.

I’m close to retirement though. I’m kind of tired of buying into the hustle culture porn.

Bloomberg l6ordone Apr 10

That is a procrastination excuse. May be retire with meta bragging rights. Otherwise, you know what you want, It seems

Are people trolling on this app. Where are these 650k roles at non faang lolz.

Bloomberg l6ordone Apr 10

Only can think of hedge funds.

All depends on the level

You sound like you’d be a pain to have as a coworker. If you’re not passionate about working on cool problems, and 40-50 hour weeks is what you consider grinding, you’re just going to drag down whatever team you’re on. You’re better off treading water where you’re at for a couple more years so you can go to your retirement home at 40.

Peloton hobo78 Apr 11

Not tryna be facetious but what would you consider grinding?

DigitalOcean Sharkhuyak Apr 11

You, on the other hand, sound like a wonderful person.

Motional nestedL00p Apr 11

Curious about what other employers are offering 650k tc and how has the experience been with these orgs? Mind dropping some more info?

I’ve had the fortune of joining a few jobs at a time when money was cheap and equity was under-valued.
