> As of October 19, 2023, LinkedIn has around 21,000 employees worldwide. Do they need that many employees? For such a simple website, 21,000 people? I remember back in the old days in 1991, Microsoft had 4,600 employees and they hoped it can go to 6,000 by the end of the summer. 6,000 employees and that included DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Microsoft Words, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visual C++, Visual Basic, a few Multimedia products, Games, all with 6,000 people. And now Linkedin is 3x that at 21,000 people and doing a simple website?
simple website? I think you need to understand how websites runs
yeah, a couple years ago, I typed in a message for 5 minutes, and then spent another 5 minutes changing it, rephrasing, etc. Spent total 10 minutes typing it. And then there is an emoticon button, so with the cursor at the end of the message, I added a smiley face. Whoop, my whole message is gone. Choosing Edit -> Undo will not work. The whole message just gone, replaced by a smiley face. I had to re-type the whole message, which I did, with some vomiting sensation. That's was how sophisticated the website was.
meta has a “go-horse” culture, where design docs are “for the foolish and naïve” and high availability just means throwing canaries into the deployment process of course he has no idea why you’d ever need a message broker 🤷♂️ he’d just scratch his head and guess you ought to throw more machines at it
Isnt facebook so simple too?
Not for the native and mobile development being done, but for the web dev, yes
There’s also whatsapp, instagram, messenger, and threads
Probably can cut 10,000 more and make it work just like Elon did
Yup and they can name it “x.com” too after Twitter is forced to sell their assets due to bankruptcy.

Meta has 75k employees? For the piece of crap Fb has become, why does Meta need so many? WhatsApp was acquired and so was IG, really!
For meta world
Whatsapp had 20 engineers and instagram even less when they were acquired.
lemme go count how many users are in the metaverse
Are you including those paid to be there?
It's becoz of diversity and inclusion 😂
Wtf are they doing with that headcount?
Well actually, I enjoy LinkedIn for the most part. Wait until we make them start replatforming to save money. I think the time is almost here.
that's a lot of people devoted to enabling professional virtue signaling
Linkedin has 100mil + daily users. Msft in 99 must have had fewer users

one could say the same about Meta
don't attack me about Meta. I never said Meta needed N number of people. And keep to the fact and what we are discussing: Linkedin. The way you are saying, "oh what about Meta, what about it, why does it..." is about the same way how my younger sister reacted when she was 6 year old.
