I managed to keep my job at Meta and started my career in 2019. After busting my ass off the last couple years and not getting promoted to IC5, despite weekends/long hours/fighting burnout, I am so unmotivated and so burnt out. What's the point of working so hard if promotions are not guaranteed? Why shouldn't I do the bare minimum if I feel I am not recognized? Why care for a job that won't blink twice for letting me go to save money? This is my first career, and after a few years I am burnt out. Any advice for me? TC: 188k Data Analyst pre tax

Why don't you try moving out?
Get used to it. This is how corporate culture normally works. You’ll have to make a decision to either leave or stay and coast. Companies tend to bleed people dry like this. You essentially just described the typical tech experience.
Do you feel the same at NG?
The first 3/4 years of tech career is burnout and overcompensating with your sanity and health. The rest is realising it's dog eat dog and playing the game so you can get higher TC with less work.
I can take your job if you want to switch places, I’m currently unemployed?

It’s applicable to 99 of every 100 question on blind. Blind would shut down if everyone searched every single question before posting.
also, OP wanted to say this, to get his/her grievance known to the void. There is a tendency of Blinders using Blind as free psych consultations, please don't deprive OP of that opportunity.
come to Databricks you will find that working less than 8 hours during your PTO or holidays at Meta is a blessing
Wow, is WLB at Databrick that bad?
Expected to work during holidays? That can’t be real
That's how it goes. I've hit that point too. You just watch and see that working hard is for the losers and the people chosen to be promoted get pushed up a hill and appearances managed for them to cover up their bullshit and make them look better. Every team, every company I've seen it happen. You're either chosen or not. Just work but not too hard. If someone likes you you'll know you're getting promoted and can go for it then if you want. Otherwise just work more casually and keep getting ready for the next role you'll inevitably need after either being so bored and want more money or you get managed out.
Seeing someone say “get used to it” hurts a little bit. Sometimes the idea of “success” isn’t just the title or the fancy job. I used to think that being employed by a prestigious company meant that I had done it. Sure; it was secure and all, but sometimes you have to realize that life is and can be more. More as in more fulfilling, more rewarding and more exciting. What is your heart passionate about? What would you do with your life if you had everything you ever needed? I transitioned out of my career and into my own thing. I love who I’ve become and what I do now. Don’t settle for less if you know you’re destined for more.
What do you do now? I’m in a similar boat and thinking of leaving my job
It took me years to unravel the idea of success. I’m a mentor and coach now. Left my startup & consulting gig to help people get out of the rat race. In a sense, I stepped into my calling.
I thought you have 27M. And wondered why not just quit?
It's ok
