Me - swe with 7yoe, i have previously worked with some mid size IT companies. Now, i was eyeing for google as my next company. Got call from Google recruiter, she shared me some prep material, also i browsed a little about google interview questions. I am feeling demotivated now that if will i ever be able to crack google. I think i am average or less at programming and have not even read too many different algorithms, as my academics was also non computer science. I just took things and learnt as they came to me. My job also did not need extensive use of these complex algorithms like graph AVL tree etc. The content to be prepared seems too much and i already feel too late to start. #engineering #swe #google
Everyone faces imposter syndrome before and after getting the job. It's all about making own your luck. Just study a little and give it your best. If you don't get Google, you'll still land on your feet and find a good opportunity with enough perseverance, practice, and luck.
lots of people at FANNG do shits, think about this.
You should do the interview regardless and prep as well as you can. If you fail, and it’s ok to fail, continue to prep and try again in a year.
Hey don't loose hope so soon, I would recommend appearing for interviews at other FAANGMULA companies as a practice. Otherwise you will have to wait in cool down period. Start with LC easy and get freaking good at that. Then same with medium and then eventually hard. You will get a hang of algorithms while you do this . Don't even worry about system design - my guess is you will be able to blabber your way out in functional part of the design problem .
Nobody dreams of being happy 😅
Lol such an underrated comment
Almost everyone hates these algorithm/data structure shit but we all have to play the game. My personal experience is go to LC and find ~50 high rating medium to hard Facebook problems and practice them over and over until you can confidently write a working solution for any of them under 10 mins. At that point you can try some FAANG companies and see how it goes.
Don't keep this as your dream. You might be dissapointed and underwhelmed when you join.
This. Don't.. FAANG etc heavily overrated. I mean, you are still working as a cog right? Few LCs and some $$ make you think you are better than others?
was about to post the same. you've built up an idea of Google in your head. just focus on developing yourself and don't let FANG be the measure of your worth
Stay positive, basically was in the same situation as you and I start in 2 weeks.
Fuck em, just grind leetcode and keep applying.. that’s what I’m doing at least... we’ll get there eventually

Israel prevents Palestinians from gathering rainwater? Seems wrong on so many levels to me
Interview prep is a marathon, not a sprint. Give yourself sufficient time to prepare, stick with a schedule and commit. Best case, you get your dream offer. Worst case, you become a lot more confident in your ability, and can retry next time. Its a win-win
