Any thoughts on Cockroach Labs and CockroachDB? Seems like a powerful product, so it’s caught my interest. Makes it possible to scale transactional workloads without having to resort to sharding or denormalizing. Also, fits really well with k8s environment. However I suppose it’s not fully proven at scale yet. Anybody work there or hear good things about engineering culture?
The name is so disgusting.
Named cockroach as it can survive nuclear bombs as well. 🤔
Did they pay for this ad?
Even if the best company in the world , don’t they realize that their name alienates many people ?
Rated number one in products nobody wants to pitch to their VP due to the unpleasant name. Makes the people behind MariaDB, MySQL, Couchbase and PostgreSQL all seem like branding geniuses in comparison.
That's where the guy from Men in Black was created.
People calling out their name, do you realize that cockroaches are probably the most resilient creatures out there, able to withstand a nuclear attack. Name isn’t so bad
Yea that’s why it’s named that, but should’ve known blind would be no real advice and just a bunch of posts about the name lol.
See, this is the point. Most people, including myself have no clue about this. So it is the founders responsibility to not keep names that makes sense to only a handful people.
I've heard the culture is good. Some coworkers at my previous job were comparing performance vs gpdb and it performed very well. Didn't get an interview.
I applied but got rejected without even a phone interview. Google was my second option.
Heard their DB is buggy.
