One of the main reason for gun rights is to use it when government becomes a tyranny. Given how police brutality is a norm these days, would it or should it be legal to pick your gun against this tyranny? If peaceful protest is the right way to protest against the government then were the founding farhers wrong?
I own two guns, one for mass shootings and special events like going to a Starbucks in Texas, the other for Proud Boys rallies and accidentally shooting black people in their own homes
Define norm. Are you saying the a MAJORITY of cops are there to commit police brutality? Don't confuse our increased awareness and justified intolerance for these hate acts as them being normal there is a drastic difference.
When I see black people are targeted and killed literally every other week, I would call that a norm. What’s your definition of norm? It doesn’t matter if majority of cops aren’t killing people. What matters is are people being killed.
My definition of norm is majority and indifference due to accepting a certain fact as normal. It is terrible what is happening and has happened to the black community in the United States and across the world (primarily white nation's) but I still hesitate on calling it the norm. It is a systemic issue that we as a nation need to deal with. I'm with you on the righteous anger, I just don't think it's normal for police to commit police brutality. It's actually very abnormal. Outrage and media coverage shows this generally does not report on things that are "the norm."
Are you saying the gun rights is just giving a false sense of protection and in reality there is no chance the people has a stance against the government?
That's been proven wrong many times, a modern military is no match for an armed population.
Where is the option that says we aren't yet at the point of last resort?
Last resort for who? You sitting peacefully in your house or mr Floyd?
A last resort for all of us if we find that we have a regime that wholesale ignores the Constitution and the usual democratic means to resolve the issues politically have been thwarted by subversion of the Constitution. In other words, 2A is the backstop for our constitution and system of government as a whole, not your tool to resolve your issues individually. A well regulated militia is not a lone gunman, but a collective response of the people to tyranny, for which purposes armed citizens will be called upon to defend the Constitution. The Declaration of Independence actually has a pretty good formulation for the conditions under which it's justified for a people to reform the government. It's not because one police officer fucked up. That isn't to say that private citizens are not justified in the use of force. There have been cases of illegal use of force by the police and the courts have exonerated citizens who acted in self defence against the police. Now for that we have a good court system where a jury of your peers will decide whether that's the case, and in most situations it won't be. But sometimes it happens.
The choices of this poll barely correlate with the question. This is idiotic.
You took this post too seriously
2nd Amendment is for self defense. Every individual has this right, so long as this doesnt violate anothers rights. And no politician or naive liberal can take it away.
You should read your history book.
Exactly, gun grabbers have long deprived those they don’t like of their inherent right to keep and bear arms. California’s gun restrictions when lawful armed black men showed up at the capitol to protest their treatment by police, for example.
Your poll choices are lacking. The right to self defense is inherent. That is the reason for gun rights. Resistance to tyrannical government is merely self defense. The use of deadly force is a last resort. When cops get shot on no-knock raids, the person that shot them doesn’t always get charged with a crime. Had someone shot the cop in the act of murdering Floyd, the shooting would have been justified. Shooting up the local police station is not.
You gonna be dead befors you can aim your gun at a cop
That’s not what I am asking. By that logic, would you stand a chance against the f16 or abrams tank with your ar15? Do you really think if our government becomes a tyrant, you can take it down with your paltry gun? In the history of USA, never a government was toppled even when you have 2nd amendment specifically designed for that purpose. Where as rest of the world has done it countless times even without that right.
The cops and armed forces are citizens just like you. So yes thete is a possibility of a civil war, but as we move towards autonomous warfare with drones and self propelled war machines , we make our chances slim
