Hi all, I am a program manager at a FAANG now and have done three years of Product work at Deloitte and a start up before joining Amazon. I also have some additional work which is not product related and more TPM related. I am also an engineer by background, worked for years at a popular cloud provider and did an MBA afterwards. I am right now leading #@# LLM initiatives (not fake projects, it's real and huge but not sure how long a launch will take, at least a year out now) and hoping to see success there for my team. Nevertheless , I am looking for senior product manager roles to transition back into product. Some people suggested I try Principal but getting into the role is more important for me now. I have contemplated and see a seven year plan for myself where I grow as a product lead and manage product folks. Eventually, I want to be a STO leading both product and tech teams. I don't care about titles but more about the work I do to reach my goal. I care about my pay as we have bills to pay and children's education to be taken care of. I don't need to be at FAANG as long as my work is good and company culture fits me and I fit the company. I enjoy working towards a goal and getting things done. I am known as a go getter. I also enjoy research to understand market changes and want to do the big picture thinking too. I am known to bring out the right questions and make folks think. I can spend a few days and understand tech in any area with research, reading, team learning sessions, etc. Right now, I am working on the engineering to make a LLM production ready. I am looking for change due to RTO and also because I feel suffocated in the program manager role and want to switch asap to keep myself happy. I also have some dissatisfaction in my career as I lost 5 years working in a Big 4 due to visa issues. I want to do what I am passionate about now as I finally am in the right personal space post birth and post visa stability. Please refer me and help me make this transition. I know the market is bad now but I need to start the journey now. I am looking for product roles in NYC. TC: 380K
Hey there. Iām a sr Product manager for 4 years and on focus. Not getting too many calls after trying a lot. And the ones I do a full loop say no after lots of interviews. Even small companies have a lot of choice in current market. The easiest way for you to transition will be within Amazon. Reach out to every hiring manager and prepare a pitch. It will help if your rating is better than HV1.
How the the hell did you end up in program management after being a swe and dev? Lol
what were some of the duties/functions done as program manager that would be similar to product manager role that you are seeking ?
Why do you feel suffocated in program manager role but why the move to product? Can you try for product internally at Amazon?
It's good you are ambitious and have a clear plan for yourself. I'd say start applying right now for external PM roles using a resume that focuses on your experiences from PM-angle to sell yourself
