I saw a Googler ( Male ) hit a lady multiple times in the cafe, should I report?
Got a 400k offer for Bay Area. Company is a well established one, think Uber Lyft Airbnb etc. Currently making 300k at Google with 5 YOE in Philly remote. I was wondering if the TC increase is worth it.
Nice username
Bay Area is turning into a shithole and $400k will NOT be enough to offset commiefornia income tax and HCOL
Been hearing this for the last 20 years…if it’s a shithole move out bro
Remote is getting bigger now + more things happening over zoom. SWEs will be first industry to go complete remote
can't imagine sf is 120k/yr more expensive if you're gonna rent and are single. depends what your priorities are...
10% of 400k is 40k. A 3k in rent is equivalent to 60k on a pre-tax basis. It's basically at most a wash. I'd never move from 300k Google in Philadelphia to 400k startup in the Bay Area. Probably has to be at least 500k in real no-monopoly money before I'd consider it a serious offer. Even then WLB is probably better at Google in Philly.
lol 120k is a huge increase. Go get that 400k then use it to get more in 1-2 years. Good luck!
No it's not! 400k is only 33% more than 300k. Half of which will probably just to COL adjustment anyways.
COL does not eat up all of your TC. If you spend 80k a year in Philly let’s have a crazy number and say 160k in SFO. The rest 20k is money in your pocket in this equation. COL calculation should not be full TC * something. It should be the your expenses * something
Do you want to purchase a home or rent? Do you want to live in the Bay Area, it kinda sucks Also what level are you at google?
Move to the Bay if you don’t have family/kids and are planning to just rent for a few years. You may be able to go back to Philly a few years down the line with a much bigger pay, after having worked in the Bay for a few years.
Much bigger pay in Philly? Who would pay more than the 300k OP already gets from Google?
You should run this on a COL calculator, but I think the deal in Philly is much better.
Definitely move to the bay so I can have that job in Philly
Stay in Philly unless you actually want to live in the bay
COL in philly is hilariously cheap, enjoy living like a king if you’re already used to living in philly.
