Thoughts? Anxiety? Run away? https://www.businessinsider.com/households-need-to-earn-300000-a-year-middle-class-lifestyle-2019-4
Stupid. I can live pretty luxuriously with about that. These idiots have no idea what middle class means.
Also TC or GTFO
Hahah this TC culture makes me laugh every single time
If we reach consensus on whether or not it is middle class, it doesn’t change anything. Most people earning 300k don’t have outsized control of our political system. People earning about that don’t hold much power as a bloc. A person making 300k has as much influence as someone making 50k. You need to be 8-digits and up wealthy to be relevant.
Wrong. People making 50k have influence. People making millions have influence. People making 300k don’t. You either need money or votes.
Yes if includes homeownership. Otherwise 300K is enough to fly business class every trip.
It's just the housing that costs higher in SF/NYC. Food, groceries and clothing cost almost the same all over the US. A sweater in Macy costs the same in SF/NY than that in Mississippi. Same for pasta, fruit, veggie, burger, etc.
I live in Boise. In addition to cheaper housing just about everything else is cheaper too. A movie cost $10, a gallon of milk $1.50. I forget how expensive everything is until I travel to a bigger city.
The movie costs in SF/NY is about $14. So if you watch movie every week, it's just $16 extra cost. But on the other hand, you pay check will far exceed $16 by moving to SF/NY. Plus, Netflix price is the same regardless where you work/live. You can buy generic brand milk for $1.5 in Walmart in SF as well. But doesn't organic milk cost the same in ID as CA?
Ok but new grads only make a new grad salary for a couple of years and then they move up. I don't think new grads need to be able to afford more than a middle class life immediately after college. Janitors and other workers fall into this 300k bucket give or take but I dont think anyone working as a janitor expected to live beyond middle class.
Wait, janitors earn 300k?
In the bay yes. It was national news a few years ago when everyone discovered they all made 6 figures and the famous bart guy was pushing 300 a few years ago. https://www.google.com/amp/s/time.com/4555692/san-francisco-bart-janitor-salary/%3famp=true
Sounds about right. What’s the big deal?
Build more houses. Build up. Cost of living will go down.
300k with 50%+ tax really doesn't go that far. Thanks benevolent overlords!
Sounds about right. Doesn’t bother me too much.
I have the same reaction. Sounds right. Doesn't bother me too much
