So.. I have been feeling really low and dealing with low self-esteem, inferiority complex issues. Before I joined Amazon almost 2 years ago, I still did feel bad about myself, always trying to aspire for a FAANG lifestyle, dreaming about how awesome it will be working at a FAANG. However, now that I am here, I have noticed that I am not getting the kind of rewards in terms of compensation compared to others on my team. I joined as a CSE L4 in PS and my forte was "Meets" with development needed for LPs. Due to this, I only got a 5% raise on my base pay, whereas most other people I know had minimum 10% raise, whereas some even got as much as 30% raise on their base pay. This huge difference on how others have been rewarded has just crushed me and made me feel like I am not good enough to be at any FAANG company. So many people who have joined as New Grads and are just in their early/mid 20s are earning so much higher than I am. Now I am feeling really anxious and restless on how I can break into a decent enough base pay. Internal transfers don't really lead to breaking that comp ceiling. However, I also don't want to leave Amazon just yet, as I feel there's a lot to learn here and some projects/orgs are working on really awesome stuff. The other issue is, as I am not in a role that requires regular coding, I don't have enough practice with coding anymore. I have tried to seriously focus on practicing code and even started LeetCode. But even the easy problems in LC are taking a long time for me to solve and then I get even more depressed and exhausted. I can and I have coded in my previous job and I do enjoy and love to write new code for automation and solve a big problem we'er dealing with. However, coding interviews leave me a nervous wreck and I just cannot perform well at coding interviews. Although the problems are really simple and straightforward, I just get nervous while writing code in interviews, with someone monitoring me as I write the code and the short time limit, I just blank out and bomb the coding interviews. I am from DevOps background and I happen to do really well in non-coding interviews. Sorry for this long rant. But I just felt like venting out my frustration and feelings here as the Blind community will understand how I feel. TC: 115k for 2022 :'(

I left my company last year and when I did I found out that one of our senior engineers who I highly respected was making 84k…
What geographic location? Mississippi? That kinda stuff makes me sad
Madison Wisconsin. Not high COL but it’s not like it’s that cheap to justify 84k for one of your best engineers. He had 7 yoe at the company.
Amazon really should be taken out from FAANG.
I agree
Why?
Your income alone is twice that of the average American family, you are doing great. Don’t compare yourself to everyone on blind. Most people making super high TCs popped out of their mom knowing how to implement a BST, you’ll get there
Seattle is hcol, and 115k is peanuts.
Bruh 💀
Take your time. As long as you can live off your paycheck with adequate savings, you can continue to make progress at a comfortable pace. If you’re so hungry, then get a mentor and see where you can improve.
How can one get a mentor ?
Keep learning, there are tons of people worst off than you, save and invest Everyone is on their own timeline Can you get to 200k TC by 35? How ? Plan it out Or 250k by 40?
He could do 250k next month if he LCd and dipped
@Crypto.com talking about investing. 😆
Interviews: practice interviewing at startups, expect nothing or even failure. Pumping those numbers up is the way, e. g. extensive practice, coding and psycho. We all are stressed, we all do that.
The issue is, I am not able to maintain the consistency to practice coding. I start and get really into it for sometime, but loose track half way. :(
Well, that's on you.
There are remote startups with "easy" (non LC) coding interviews that pay more than 115 and much better WLB than amzn. Consider...
Example please , seriously considering
Also curious omg
115k for swe doesn’t seem right which location ? Don’t worry too much though . Keep on changing jobs every 2 years until u hit 400k and then every 3 to 4 years until you hit 600k after that all luck
Not a SWE .. Cloud Support Engineer.
It's unfortunate that support engineers aren't valued, but not surprising. You can't let the nerves get to you. Pay for some mock interviews and get actual feedback. It will help a lot more than random leetcodes.
for others commenting on op's comp: op is a Customer Support Engineer which is quite different from a swe. Op, the ball is in your court. the best way to improve TC is to switch role to an actual swe, but from your post/replies it seems like you don't quite have the experience yet. that's fine, you're on a good path by being a cse at amazon where if you are willing to work for it, you could totally study and apply for an internal transfer as a sde. easier said than done of course, and you can rant about outside factors but it's ultimately on you to make the change you want.
Thanks. If I want to go for SDE internally, will I have to give a full interview loop similar to external hires?
you might have to given the differences in the role. I actually just left the company last week but you could try searching on inside.amazon. I know there's a technical apprentice program that is supposed to help Amazon employees from other job families to transition into sde's. I'd also recommend finding a mentor that may be able to provide more guidance!
Which location?
Seattle
Hmmmm l4? What kind of eng are you?
