Anyone used TrueCar for buying new car? Is the price they provide from dealer negotiable?
Truecar is excellent. I saved a $1k using that in the past.
I used true car as a starting point twice to identify a few dealers worth checking out and negotiated lower or on different color/trim from there. Use it as a tool to see the minimum they are willing to take off MSRP of a certain model. Note, this was prior to current supply constraints.
What are the constraints now?
Chip shortages and other supply chain issues causing a significant shortage of many new models. Many Dealers in Midwest have mostly empty lots or only used cars.
The price TrueCar gives you is supposed to be a "no haggle" price. Sure you can go in and ask for more if you like haggling and maybe save a few extra bucks, but is it really worth your time to save another $200 over 4-6 years? TrueCar shows you the actual price other people paid for a similarly configured car, if the Dealers TrueCar price is at the average or below that means you are paying what everyone else pays. Most people just want to pay a fair price and know they are not getting ripped off, TrueCar will tell you that.
This is bogus. You can save more than 200. You can save in thousands…Truecar is being paid by dealers. They will work for dealers not you.

Of course it is negotiable. Think of Truecar as proxy for dealers… they are trying to convince you to pay a higher price by showing you a higher price
Yes Dealers set the prices for their vehicles shown on TrueCar, but the market averages that TrueCar shows are from real sales data. They show what people actually paid when they bought the car, not just the advertised price. TrueCar shows you how the dealers advertised price compares against that sales data. So you know if it's a fair price or if they are trying to rip you off.
