How long on an average does it take to move from applied scientist 2 to Senior applied scientist at Amazon? #data #datascience TC: 325k
Do you not talk to your teammates ? How is blind going to be more reliable or accurate over your teammates/colleagues who have went down this path?
I'm an AS in Asia, been here for 3 years. Passed for promo twice and my third app is in the works now, I'll hear back in a week according to the timeline. 2 years seems to be a good pace, 3 about average. But really depends, the profile of AS is a much wider distribution than SDEs.
3 years on an average, if you have good visibility and your manager doesn’t do any unnecessary politics, you can get it in 2.
Depends on your body of work and previous experience. Did you join as an AS, transition from SDE to AS or transition from DS to AS?
Transitions definitely play a role. I've been an L5 AS for ~4 years now (transitioned from DS). Hoping to make L6 before I hit 5 years

Sure dm me
Wow 325k as L5 , Smh
3-5 years is typical.
To add on, would it matter if you have a PhD?
Yes it matters. Why wouldn’t it? It’s hard to say how much. Think ideal candidate is a PhD scientist with relevant domain knowledge who’s an excellent programmer and self capable in production systems.
I meant, would having a PhD up your chances of a quick promotion? would a non-PhD candidate take longer to get promoted
