Quite a few of the folks on mine and adjoining streets work at Qualcomm San Jose and Santa Clara and are desis (how unsurprising) The layoffs were surprisingly quite light in the USA for the QCA team engineering. The overseas team in India, China and elsewhere in Asia got impacted significantly harder it seems. Looks like onshoring is catching up.
60% of my friend’s team got laid off
San Diego? This is Bay Area. 6/6 did not get impacted in QCA I know reasonably well.
San Diego
What are you talking about? I know so many people who got laid off. Talking about Bay area
This is not what I was told. Folks in QCA I know. But you may know a whole set of other people. Acknowledged
Yeah, looks like it is more of sample bias
HIGHLY team dependent. My team was unaffected. Others were cut in half
US teams were definitely impacted more than India and China from internal discussions. Cuts were very non uniform across teams.
Are anymore Layoff expected till end of the month?
I hate the word folks:/
They might be lying to you though because saying you were let go in taboo.
Your title is misleading. Your title claims it's small size in the US but in your comments you state it's the Bay Area and QCA team engineering. No wonder you ended up at that loser Lucid.
It is 1258 in CA alone, 10%?
That’s 2.5% apparently
Of whole company, not san diego.
I think the hiring cost is not less in India anymore and it comes with lot of challenges.
Cost arbitrage still quite big not sure where you get the cost is not less. You can hire 15 yoe experience guy at US NCG salary
It is definitely less. When i was at QC our management even showed us slideshows saying “1 US based engineer can get 3 India based engineers or 2 china based engineers” Qualcomm has been geoshifting work for atleast a decade now. I remember when i got hired in 2014 atleast a couple a Staff engineers in my sister teams took fat packages and relocated to QIPL with their families. This was before the 2015 layoffs
