Left Booz Allen 5 yrs ago as a Sr Consultant. Since then, I grinded (ground?) hard at AWS and Google; Currently an L5 lead TPM with good potential to hit Sr TPM (L6) EoY. I'm nearing the level of burnt-out with no point if return, so I'm considering to boomerang back to Booz Allen or other public sector contracting firm (e.g. ManTech, Lockheed, Raytheon). Hoping to find some people on Blind that made this switch. - Apart from CoL adjustment, how did your TC change? - Does big tech experience get special treatment (considered for higher than typical level placement)? - Is the work slower / faster? Is it interesting vs big tech? - Any other pros / cons? TC: 360k Seattle #boozallenhamilton #mantech #raytheon #deloitte #lockheed #northropgrumman
Dont. Reach out if you want to discuss in depth.
Contractors suck. Stay with AWS, MSFT, OCI, etc.
Defense work can include paid overtime, which is nice when you get it. At least if you’re killing yourself to meet a deadline you get a bigger paycheck for your trouble.
One con: the tech used in the defense world lags behind the commercial world, sometimes by a lot. I left my job in defense because I wanted to do cloud stuff and they didn’t really have any of that kind of work available. The one program that I worked for a while that used GovCloud was so screwed up that it ended up getting canceled.
Gonna be a pretty large comp cut right?
I expect some cut but "some" probably varies depending on level. I didn't & don't mind going back to middle of nowhere Virginia and even low (100k-150k / yr) can go so far there.
