Buying a Volvo XC90 just for safety # Auto

Been reading about safety. Looks like many car companies ignore the second row/ third row safety. Found that Volvo is doing above beyond to make their cars safe. I also hear reliability issues about

5 star crash rating is dime a dozen right? I find the Volvos have beautiful interior. But mechanic friend says don’t trust that engine. Maybe good enough for warranty/lease period. Don’t drive it into the wilderness and trust it with your life.

Volvo’s Polestar car saved my life. Was going 70mi/hr on freeway and the other car next to me flipped 180 degree and hit me in the front on freeway. My car made a sudden stop and all the airbags deployed. The car automatically (by itself) called 911 and sent its location to police/fire truck. Later, 911 came 5 mins later and saved us. All my family is safe and the car got totaled. Everyone said it is miracle that people walked out of the car no one being injured.

I hear a lot of examples like this

It’s best Chinese brand

But XC90 is too outdated... Buying new XC90 is like buying a 5 years old mint grade used car. One funny thing about XC90 is... it's quite safe but not reliable. ( Worst model among volvos!) So many small issues there. You can read it from reddit and other communities. So I gave it up.

I hate teslas. However they are the safest cars in the market today. The Volvo xc90 was at the top of the game when it was launched (mid 2010s). Today it is an aging car that is in desperate need of a revamp

I need to read this. Tesla was not in my radar

If a sedan works, consider the model s, Lexus LS or merc s class. Go used if they’re out of budget! Even 5-6 year old pieces are better than new cars in market If you want SUVs Model y, model x, Lexus LX, Toyota Land Cruiser are fantastic. Most of the Toyotas and lexus’ on this list are super reliable. You can pick up a 10 year old piece if maintained well

If safety is real concern for you, why not buy a Tesla Model Y? It also has a very good safety rating and comparatively cheap

Better yet, but a bus, it's safer than anything else

Today even Toyota is matching those safety standards. I see no reason to buy a Volvo unless you are looking for a Truck to deliver for Walmart lmao.

I was looking at rear passenger safety and rear crash. Most of the tests now do not cover these

Volvo’s t series ice engines post 2017 should be as reliable as a bmw b58 engine. Their transmission are exactly same as a Lexus/highlander/sienna transmission. The t8 recharge might have some issues with battery but post 2020 t8 recharge engines should be fine. Most of the generic unreliable engine comments are not true for the latest engines. However, for a luxury vehicle engine, transmission and suspension system aside there might be 50 other issues with the cars that will break bank. And that is applicable to pretty much any vehicle in luxury car segment. If you are thinking about getting an xc90 here are some gripes: 1. Ride quality is harsh 2. Not as quiet as other luxury SUV’s on highway speed 3. It’s not as enjoyable to drive as a bmw/Audi. In general they are around 10k cheaper than comparable bmw, Mercedes, audi and around 5k cheaper than Lexus/Acura.
