(Not at FB anymore) I changed job twice last year searching for something that would motivate me, but just cannot seem to find it. Part of it is that I feel like I’ve hit a wall as a developer and part of it is I haven’t found a project interesting enough. Funny how being in a role making 300+ feels like a dead-end job, but it does for me. I don’t think I take programming seriously enough to be L6 or higher swe, but can’t think of what else I can be. Considering a role switch maybe to PM/TPM, Partner Eng, etc..., but my current employer is smallish and there won’t be many opportunities for mobility. Also, if I want a different role going to a different company I am sure I will have to tale a big hit in terms of responsibility/$$. I guess another option is going back to faang-like companies and slowly switch to either EM or PM track, but that’s a longer process. I am relatively old in tech(late 30s) and don’t want to waste anymore time, but switching jobs too often is too stressful plus might damage my resume in the future. My plan is maybe stay for like 1.5 years to see what I can get out of my current role satisfaction-wise, but steadily do prep for interview in case I want to jump. Can’t believe I am saying this, but I feel lost. I have too many ppl I need to support, so $ is very important which limits the amount of risk I can take. Wonder if anyone’s been through similar stage in life... TC: 320
need more time to prepare for interviews
Why did you leave FB?
How about working on some passive income on the side? If you can get some momentum there, you can feel more freedom in jobs.
