Specifically through TEKSystems. I’ve always been full-time but considering trying it out as a dev. I have about 9 yrs worth of experience.
If you go through a staffing firm you won’t qualify for the new 20% pass through tax deduction
My understanding is you wouldn't anyway since this would seem to be a "service" business. But I may be reading it wrong.
TEKsystems is in general a very good consulting firm. However I don’t recommend leaving your full time job as a consultant because: 1. No job security. Even though you get signed up for say 1 year contract with the client, in reality your contract can be ended any time. Even though a full time job can be terminated any time, since you get severance pay employers are more careful about layoffs. 2. Limited career growth as you are just a consultant. 3. You will search for jobs typically every 18 months 4. Even though you might get paid more but suppose your contract end in October, you will have to stay at home with 0 pay for several months as less people are hiring. 5. Don’t get 401K or Health Insurance. Even if you get it won’t be as good as compared to a full time job. 6. Getting mortgage is extremely difficult I think a consultant job is good where both partners are working. However one of the partner wants flexibility regarding the job due to other commitments.
Think this person hit it spot on. If your bottom line is the number one goal then it's great. I think though the lack of job security gets you on edge eventually.
