What the hell is going on at Activision Blizzard? Saw the news the other day of a RTO. And seeing a lot of Blizzard devs on Twitter today complaining publicly about stuff. Why would they institute RTO now? Going to be a mass exodus I would assume. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/activision-blizzard-mandates-partial-return-to-office #activisionblizzard
job market is shitza.
Exodus to where?
Indie companies
Indie companies - you kidding right
Well Warzone 2 which they spent a lot of money on is absolutely garbage. Force them back, maybe they’ll make a decent game.
It's gonna be a shit show. We were already having a tough time filling roles remotely, now try convincing them to move to Irvine for the Collaboration and the Culture. Probably going to be another exodus of talent
👋
Quiet layoffs
I’ve never seen so many blizzard devs up in arms on twitter. This seems even bigger than the other times recently when this happened. Did y’all have like a REALLY disasterous Q&A today? Curious if there are any exceptions being made? What if you were hired remote during the last year and live across the country for example?
There was indeed a terrible Q&A yesterday https://www.gamedeveloper.com/culture/q-a-with-blizzard-leadership-on-return-to-office-bonuses-leaves-devs-fuming Some people are cleared for long-term remote, but that was heavily dependent on discipline, team and your manager. If you aren't one of them, you need to move or leave basically.
Yikes. Sorry to hear that.
Cheaper and better image than making layoffs
Just cutting the fat.
They’re also taking a hit in bonus pay after one of their best quarters
How much of a hit?
Anyone who has a bonus in their package will get 58% of that amount for the year, I don’t get one so not sure how it actually breaks down, but this particular payout is going to be pretty low
It’s been a long damn week for us.
Do tell, what else has gone wrong?
You can google all the things, Q&A, Bonuses, lots of confusion, lots of unanswered questions for most people. We might answer your HR ticket by March.
Good! Not an ounce of sympathy from me. All companies should do the same.
