After many months of seeing multiple success stories on Blind, I finally have one of my own and it all seems so surreal. Before I discovered Blind, my goal over the next two years was to hit the 6-figure mark (I know right!). Little did I know that so many people in tech, especially in the US, make so much more. I feel so lucky and privileged to have stumbled upon this goldmine of career information and transparency. I'm sure there is some level of toxicity on Blind (just like any other online community) but for the most part, all I have received from this community is inspiration and (loads of) entertainment. So I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to every single one of you. I'll try to keep this fairly short and I will be withholding some information to retain some semblance of anonymity. Feel free to DM or comment if you're curious to know more. Numbers are all in CAD as that's where I live. Salary progression is as follows: 1st job out of school in late 2019: 45k Left after 3 months and got a decent bump: 68k + 8% perf bonus Got 2 raises taking me to: 72k + 8% Switched jobs again in 2021: 90k + 10% (I was ecstatic as I was 1k away from the dream 6 figures LOL) Discovered Blind not too long after and started grinding leetcode and system design. After 2 months of prep, applied to all FAANG + a few other companies. No response from Apple and Netflix. Got resume rejected at Meta even with referral. Managed to get offers from Google, Amazon, PlayStation and a Unicorn. Rejected by Dropbox. Accepted Unicorn offer: 300k+ | ~200k base + 110k - 150k stock options (unsure of the exact value). #engineering #software
Congrats! How many LC problems did you do to prepare? How did you go about preparing for system design? What’s your level at the new company?
By the time I interviewed at Google, less than 100. As of now, closer to 200. I just used Grokking and past experience for system design. L4
Which LC problems did you do? Blind 75 and what else?
Do tell. What’s the Unicorn?
Hint: Same pay bands across North America
Please stop hinting and tell us. What company is this?
Omg congrats. I earn so little right now and I want to start LC and grinding. Can I dm you for mock interviews and prep materials?
Sure! Not so much mock interviews but I can definitely point you in the right direction.
Woow! This is amazing man congratulations 👏🏽 bro! Can you please create a post on the steps you took to get here? Success and all the best on your new path bro 😎
Thanks! Tbh there are already loads of posts like this on Blind detailing their journey if you look around. I didn't do anything different from those. You just have to create a learning path that works for you and stick to it no matter what.
I see… that was very helpful I guess… lol 😂
Currently getting back into studying after a year and a half off. Feels like starting from the beginning. Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm just doing the same for others as others on Blind did for me :) Good luck!
Congratulations Aot996..
I’m assuming you went from non tech to tech? If so, what was your first programming language and what languages got you your new role?
Yes do tell
Nope. I have an engineering degree but not Computer Science. They just pay us 🥜 in 🇨🇦
Congratulations!! Can I DM for referrals in 6 months?😉😂
Sure! Step up your LC game first though 😉
I either took time off or did them after work hours. I’m on EST so I could interview late my time while it’s still work hours in the West Coast. Maybe the occasional phone screen here and there during work hours cuz those are just like an hour long.
How did you prep for system design?
Grokking and past work experience. Few design blogs here and there, YouTube videos etc.

Companies that pay as much as meta
Wow what unicorn is paying that much in Canada? Hope it's not Wish 😂
Lol I WISH. But no it's not.
It's either Bolt or Reddit then. Those are the only two I know paying this well and same pay band. I'm leaning on Bolt.
