Interviewed for migration advisor in early June. I was told by recruiter that panel found Amazon fit at Principal level but not for the role. Got connected to another recruiter a week later and then another, and third recruiter scheduled an interview with new HM. During the interview, I realized HM was not aware of all that happened and was surprised when I said I had been theough loop. I felt that he thought he was doing initial phone screen. Needless to say, I got an standard rejection email from a coordinator. Followed up with recruiters but no word. I have now applied to multiple roles. Hoping to hear from the forum what else I can do. YoE : 19 + MBA TC : 225 (Low Cost location) + 50 Variable (quota based) Expected TC : 300 - 375 (depending on location)
You are expecting a $75k-$150k TC increase based on what? Don’t pay too much attention to the recruiter's comments. The candidate needs to pass the interview first before the team or BR/HM decides the leveling. If the candidate fits into Amazon culture (mainly LPs), but not a fit for the role, then they will recycle the profile. Again, at that point, they don’t even consider which level the candidate would be a fit.
Current Comp is 225 guaranteed plus 50 variable (quota based). So assuming 250k average, 300 is about 20% hike over my current TC. Doesnt one expect 15-20% at least? What do you suggest, I ask them to match the current salary? I am not being sarcastic, if it helps get an offer I would consider that.
Also, the 150k was if change in location to high CoL.
Ok. Couple of questions: 1) Does it not very even 25% going from say, Nashville to Seattle? 2) I wanted them to make an offer. But with repeated ask I had to quote and did not want to under quote. However, what do I do now? Do I volunteer and email to recruiter saying I am ok with lower level and lower salary?
1. No, definitely not 25% 2. Unless the candidate already has offers in hand, none of the FAANG cares about candidate expectation, it's all about the interview performance. If they like the candidate, they will give an offer and the TC will be based on the level. You are still mixing up the leveling part, if they liked you, they would have offered you at a lower level if leveling was the issue. You were not fit for the role you are interviewing for, but they probably found some LPs or found you not too bad. They think that you can be a good fit for other roles, so they recycled your profile. For example, out of 39 interviews I took this year, I recycled probably 25 candidates, around 12 got flagged (permanent reject). Those 25 candidates were either weak, didn't have enough exp, or didn't meet the bar but they demonstrated 1-3 Amazon LPs.
I was told by the recruiter,I was dealing with, that I am a great fit for Amazon but my visa (H1B) would have problem me working with Government cloud. I interviewed for a SA role with public cloud. I am sure the interviewer were aware of my visa and the recruiter as well, you have to put your visa information while applying for the role. So I believe I wasn’t deemed fit for the role hence this feedback. Recruiter said she will get me something in next couple of days with other teams for a SA role and might get me an offer if there are other roles within public sector. I do have another offer in hand (not FAANG), I told recruiter that I have to decide very soon for the other offer, she asked me to buy a few days while she gets back to me. Now what I hear and read about being recycled I was basically rejected for the role I interviewed for but possibly seen passing the culture fit. Does anyone actually gets an offer after being recycled?
Thanks. It is clear now, I did have it mixed up. So I am just going to wait now, while applying for all matching roles, and fingers crossed.
What does it mean to be recycled? Sorry total noob here
Same as it means in real life, not trash, could be recycled for a different use.
Also, don't get offended or demoralized when recycled. A lot of times recruiters pick the wrong role, HM doesn't pay much attention, so it goes all the way to the tech screen process then ♻️.
I was recycled on a Sr. Solution Architect role back in December and the recycle situation for me has been so-so. Original recruiter was originally gung ho to set me up with a different specialist role but said it’d be up to the HM what happened next and could be anything from a casual chat to a full loop. After about 2 months I got set up for a tech screen for that specialist role and didn’t pass. Recruiter went dark after that. Around that same time, original HM messaged me on LinkedIn saying that he had convinced the new HM for the first role to give me another look if I was still interested. Said I was, never heard anything back. About 1.5 months ago I connected with a VP on LinkedIn and did a call with him which led to a phone screen for a PM-T role. The VP said my feedback from first loop was good and he could still use it to shorten this loop, even after 6 months or so. Oddly the Director he set me up with for the phone screen wasn’t told I had no PM experience and thus my phone screen didn’t go great and I got the canned reject after that as well. Between those I have applied/been referred to a few other positions and got flat rejected. At this point I’m just going to keep my VP and Sr. Manager connections warm and give it another go in 6-12 months.
