I am thinking of driving a Porsche 911 for a year. I am debating between leasing and buying then selling Not sure if I can lease used. What would my costs be (total expenditure, monthly payment/ depreciation maintenance opportunity cost etc.) a) 1y leasing new then returning b) buying new and then selling after 1y c) buying used for half price of new then selling after 1y d) buy used at some optimal point you guys are recommend and then selling after 1y TC: 530k (thanks satya) NW: 835k
C won’t work because they notoriously don’t depreciate as you see on typical luxury vehicles. They hold value very well. I’d recommend b as you might even be able to sell at close to original sales price if you get a decent deal or 2nd option d. Option a just fees like loosing a bunch of money as you are paying but have nothing to show for at the end.
I agree just buy it new sell it after 5 years at a minimal loss. Idk why this needs to be thought out so thoroughly with that TC 😂. Whether you buy new or used you’ll have a good resale.
He just wants it for a year tho. But yea, agree with buying. Particularly due to Porsche having a strong track record of holding value
You do know the 911 has one of the worst leases? Buying new you looking at 120ish min. They do depreciate for the first decade then start picking up, so you might be looking at taxes plus first year say 20%dip. Ain’t for the faint of heart to do it one year. I’ve owned mine > a decade. Won’t lease one it’s too good for that :).
Yup I agree. Factor in the depreciation. It’s more about the car not the cost. 911s hold value great though.
Interesting, so 2-3y car age ownership could be optimal as far as deprecation and maintenances fees go?
Is it even possible to lease a 911?
I think everything goes for a right price
Why would like this old gasoline car? Find a new electric car instead. They are faster and more flexible.
How is taycan? heard good things
Taycan depreciates half its value in 2 years. A gas 992 911 is a much better investment.
The true cost is your self-respect
You’re better off buying one that’s a few years old. A 991.1 will holds its value better than a 991.2 or a 992 on a 1 year basis. 911s are generally pretty reliable. Get a PPI and you’ll be fine.
Which Porsche 911 trim are you going for? Are we talking something like a Carrera 4 or a Turbo S?
Did not give it too mutch thought, I would opt for what's available and gets good value for the money
Is this going to be your first car?
We have family cars already, this is purely an experience I want to have
Cool. Porsches don’t carry the same rep other brands do about being expensive and unreliable. You’re not going to run into any major repairs in the first year. The highly sought after models are not going to be available to you without a prior purchasing relationship with Porsche or smooth talking the folks at the dealership near you. If you don’t like what’s available, buy one that’s barely used. Unsure if Porsche does lease deals on 911s. You can ask the dealership. I’ve had the fortune to drive a base Macan few years ago and still think fondly of it. Driving around a 911 will be heavenly. Cheers.
You can get a used Porsche on Facebook or craigslist for less than $10k. I got a bmw z3 for $9k. Make sure you do a pre purchase inspection and get the carfax
$0 if you get the service plan. Got the service plan for my S5 SB. The cost has been $0 so far and $1900 when my brakes need to be replaced. Had it for 2 years since new from the factory. Why not buy it and keep it for 5 years? That’s what I’m doing with the S5.
5y depreciation maintenance opp cost etc is more than 1y.
You shouldn’t have to pay maintenance on a new 911. Shouldn’t be any if you have a package. The depreciation is negligible on a 911. Just keep it 5 years. The car is for you to enjoy it’s not an investment. Add the depreciation into the price of the car.
