680. WTF? I'm beginning to think 800+ is a myth. Any advice on how to get this up?
Definitely not a myth...mine has been 800+ for at least 7 years...
having no score at all is not a good thing - you flat out won't get loans period.

The way to get your score up is pay down credit cards to below 25% available credit or off completely. Basically a credit report states how much credit you are worthy to receive. If you need credit, you're probably considered less credit-worthy. Save enough so you don't need credit, and use the low rates that come with good credit scores strategically for things like mortgages.

800+ here. Helped get a great rate on mortgage (3.375% fixed 30yr)
Yeup, hoping to get married and buy a home in the near future.
Does anybody have absolute shit credit...? how did it happen?
Bad divorces are the most common cause. People who overextended themselves and got crushed in the 2008 housing bubble and had to declare bankruptcy to get out of an underwater house is the other common cause. BKs get discharged / expunged from your report after 7 years but it takes a while to rebuild as no one wants to loan to you at reasonable rates with a poor score.
i did have N/A score for a whil, due to moving in to US from abroad. I'm told the only other folks who have this score are inmates. Credit cards are possible, but crazy high so just paid it off every month. mortgage is almost impossible but I got one though a local Union for 2pp premium. Now, 2 yrs later I am in the high 700 and refinanced.
FICO is specifically a reference to the fair isaac model and generally only used in mortgage underwriting. Most consumers don't have any visibility to their FICO score. You can see where your credit scores are at for free using credit karma. 800+ is possible if you stop borrowing money and pay off your debts. More importantly though, ask yourself why you want a high credit score. I actually aspire to a null credit score. Banks having no inputs into a credit scoring model for me would be a much stronger signal of having done well than a high credit score.
You like Dave Ramsey too? I'm a believer in his methodology, it has worked out for us
Wait. Tell me more. I want to be in a good position to buy a home sometime this year. maybe early next.
