I thought the deal to acquire the current CEO’s company was pretty strange, and looked like a bad deal compared to Databricks acquiring Mosaic. Have a lot of respect for Slootman but unsure what to think of this recent CEO change. Was it actually worth the acquisition? Neeva didn’t really have any real foundational model assets so I guess it really was to get this new CEO in. Saw that there was a deal just done with Coda (also started by a former Google exec) which smells kind of fishy… #snowflake
Too early to tell
Snowflake culture has gotten worse since he joined
Why do you think so
Bc we’re becoming way more corporate/sweatshop like. Stuff like our “type faster” initiatives, informing RTO 3-4 days a week (org dependent), no opportunities to give feedback to leadership, hire to fire (no formal pip process), poor leadership across multiple orgs, high pressure to always be performing at a high level, ect. Culture has changed so much in the past year. It’s giving off Amazon energy but even worse…..
He is perfect.
I’ll tell you after the next 4 earnings
Next one will show direction as well
Its gotten so much worse. The entire startup he came in with is all “over promise and under deliver”. The culture has followed suit. When all you care about is promises, the only thing that matters is your personal network.
And acquisitions in his leadership have been startups of his fellow caste brethren of Tamil Brahmins.
I’ll give him 6-12 months. His #1 priority is to fix the culture of eng and PM and #2 is to fix sales and hold folks accountable. He is doing something but too early to tell if it is working or not. I like his urgency, I don’t like that at least so far we are not prioritizing, so it’s just grind harder and not smarter right now.
We don't see him often yet... Wait and see!
