The heat wave is making me want to curse more. This fucking black out is going on for too long. F%#*$&^#^^#&&&&#;'dbddh
Get the frustration but you wanted them to build against severe thunder storms and wild fires?
They ran out of capacity. High heat and/or thunderstorms is an excuse. Coming from a third world country, I never though I would see this happening in America. This happens frequently in India.
How would you build a fireproof electric grid? There are 17 active fires right now at 25% containment. Again it sucks but not sure anyone can build a fireproof grid, at least not at a remotely reasonable cost. If you really want you can get a generator so natural disasters don't impact you.
High heat is such a shitty excuse. Arizona has 100+ degrees weather most of summer, it doesnt mean Arizona runs out of electricity.
Arizona is 1/6 of CA population, 1/2 size and less diverse geographically. It also routinely deals with high heat issues where CA is more edge case, huge scale difference, and the scale is in meatspace not bits. More fire prone doesn’t help either.
Oh, Arizona is only 1/6 the population is it? So CA gets 6 times more taxes then? Maybe even more since the states taxes are so high? If the taxes are nor being used for providing basic infrastructure, where are they being spent?
PG&E filed for chapter 11 .. They're bankrupt, why do you think they would be reliable?
CA government know is, yet it isnt doing anything about it. What does it say about CA?
You think the state can just take over or bail out a private company thas has been mis-managed for decades, spends millions on lobbying and got billions in tax breaks ? The current political climate isn't going to allow it to be turned into a state sponsored cooperative just because it's good for the customers without a fight. A proposal to turn PG&E into a customer owned cooperative, initiated by San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, has received backing from more than 110 elected officials that represent majority of PG&E customers and include 21 other mayors. In December 2011, the non-partisan organization Public Campaign criticized PG&E for spending $79 million on lobbying and not paying any taxes during 2008–2010, instead getting $1 billion in tax rebates, despite making a profit of $4.8 billion and increasing executive pay by 94% to $8.5 million in 2010 for its top five executives. anyway, you can get all of this from wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Gas_and_Electric_Company
PG&E is one of the most mismanaged operators of all out there. Rest are much better.
Their stock is an absolute scam.
Looks like CA ISO just jumped the gun. The power consumption was well below previous peaks especially on weekends. They had enough reserves but pulled the plug earlier https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/16/business/california-blackouts.html
it's liberal policies. if you can not trim down trees you get wildfires, blackouts are to prevent wildfires.
no one can trim down entire forests worth of trees
Actual power lines are tangled among branches that can not be trimmed. In this case, they not being not being able meet demand, could also put some blame on policy that shut down nuclear plant with double capacity of what was needed to avoid blackouts now. They are already planning to shutdown another by 2025, and other policies forcing utilities to invest x% on green energy which is more expensive limits expansion too. It's just Cali being Cali, over woke/liberal.
Sometimes I wonder, is this wildfire and heat wave challenge unique to the US? How is this still a problem, I mean it doesn’t matter if itsprovided private company or government or if the company was in bankruptcy, whatever. This is 2020 in the most advanced country in the world who has the money to fly all the way to Middle East to bomb other countries.
Remember when Australia was on fire? Not unique to the US but we do have a lot of densely populated, warm, dry areas and don't invest in infrastructure (power) or fire safety (distance between housing and flammable areas)
It’s mandated by the state at a statewide level, no?
The state with highest taxes cannot even make enough electricity. Where is all my tax money going?
The black hole. Where CA officials completely mismanage and siphon all your tax dollars.
