I am moving to Dallas Fortworth area from U.K in the next few months and most of the Embedded Software roles postings (20 mile radius of the location) I see there are from Lockheed Martin and Bell Flights which need security clearance. I dont think I will get the required security clearance in US. But I see vacancies within LM in UK and should be able to get clearence of any level from UK. Would it be possible to do a internal transfer from UK to US after joining which somehow bypass the required clearance? I have a strong feeling this is impossible. But have a small hope this could be possible. Can anybody from Lockheed Martin who know better, comment what might be a good strategy?
Most LM facilities require US citizenship to even be on campus due to export control requirements. We do have facilities in the UK for doing UK work but I'm sure the UK has similar requirements and is the entire reason for why we have facilities there. Unfortunately you're going to run into the same issue with pretty much and defense company requiring US citizenship for most jobs.
Even most unclassified work is still restricted under ITAR, so you likely wouldn't even be eligible to work on something like NASA satellites
Unless you are a US or dual US/UK citizen you will not be elgibile for a security clearance. I am very familiar with the requirements because my spouse and daughter are in clearance jobs. (My daughter used to work at LM.) The UK, and Canada, have their own equivalents to a security clearance. This is a question you need to be speaking to LMs facility security officer (FSO) or HR about. There is also a security clearance subreddit that is populated with security clearance investigators and FSOs: https://www.reddit.com/r/SecurityClearance/ Do you have to move to the US? As you know, now is the worst time in the last decade to be looking for a job, especially if you will need a visa sponsor.
If you’re at LM UK you can try to reach out to a FSO/manager on the US site and see what they say. But I would say this is unlikely.
Thankyou @Glinda and @lm1x
Thank you. Dont think can become US citizen either without staying there for few years.
