I've heard of several teams being cut out completely with the exception of 1 team member, most probably more than 50% cuts.

I mean it sucks but I think they were warned months in advance. They also threatened to quit if he bought the company, so why does it matter if he gives them severance instead? Didn't 80% of employees say they were quitting.
Suddenly the blue eyed man is the monster. Several tech companies do this whenever time gets difficult. People question your credibility when you say this about someone they like. The over the top sympathy is nauseating and highly condescending.
According to the internet 2200 people got an email to their personal email address because they were locked out of their corporate account so .. not sure where you got 'without an email' ..

He could have send an email but really it wouldn't have made any difference. People would still have been villifying him. He is not having any pretense, its fine IMO. As some posts in the group say, people must have been expecting this since the takeover was finalized.
I’ve been laid off twice. I’d much prefer an email notification instead of some pathetic manager or director giving the news in person.
Anyone would expect at-least 2 week notice with some communication instead of finding it when you can’t log into corp laptop
They are still getting paid for 60 days so all legal.
