Currently interviewing at various companies and was comparing TCs. I always read on blind about how google is low paying, but I don't really understand that. When I compare the data on levels.fyi and from friends I noticed that google is pretty on par with the highest paying companies. For example: Amazon/Apple Google beats both companies across all levels (especially if you factor in refreshers). Netflix - netflix L4 pays 340k, google L4 (vhcol) pays around 310 - netflix L5 pays 550k, where netflix L5 is inbetween google L5 and L6, where google L5 is lower while google L6 is similar pay. - netflix L6 pays 700k, where netflix L6 is between google L6 and L7, where google L6 is lower but google L7 is higher Snap - snap L4 is split between google L4/5, where snap L4 pays higher than google L4 but less than google L5 - similar data for L5/6 Meta - meta offers on levels are very high right now (especially at higher levels) due to recent stock bump (stock pretty much 5x'ed last 2 years) - if you compare new offers only, there are comparable across all levels. Before anyone mentions the slow promotions at google, having worked at amazon, apple in the past, I don't think google is that slow, it's just not fast. I know plenty of people who went from l3-l5 in 3 years, etc. I wasn't originally going to consider interviewing at google, but now I will. I have some teams who reached out telling me that I can get teammatched before the interview process.
Low paying… with respect to Meta, unicorns, and HFT’s. Google is absolutely high paying compared to the industry and I would still consider them the gold standard, the company you would compare your offers to no matter which company you’re at. Google set the bar for high paid SWE’s on average. They’re just not the highest anymore. They’re just no longer a high growth company anymore and becoming more like IBM, Oracle, and they’re clearly trying to streamline offshoring by laying off Americans in favor of low paid Indians and Europeans. It is what it is.
FWIW. Netflix L6 is a range, starts around Google L6 middle and high end is roughly the same as Google L7
In London other than private equity nothing else compares, except perhaps Meta neck and neck.
because they down level frequently
