Deloitte US vs Cognizant

Received offer (165k usd base + 17% target bonus) + 15k signon bonus from Deloitte US commercial IT consulting for Senior Consultant position. Current cognizant TC (145k usd +5k fixed bonus) for Senior Associate position. Currently with Cognizant I am enjoying the dependency on me in my current project and good WLB with project visibility of atleast 2years. Only Con being need to face toxic client manager. Any suggestions if i should take Deloitte 's offer? I know pay is better, brand is better but WLB could be worst and not sure what project i would end up in. Cognizant - Mt Laurel, NJ Deloitte - Charlotte, NC P.S. - Pls dont ask how is cognizant paying 145k for Senior associate, i was hired during hot market. TC- 150k YOE- 10

I would say stay at cognizant if you're happy. 20k is not worth the risk in my opinion. You could end up with a really bad client and manager. My friends at deloitte are not happy.

lol what? commercial projects move fast and you can easily switch projects. Worst case you have to stick out a bad situation for 2 months.

deloite paying 200K TC? that's unheard of

This guy posted earlier as well, he seems a big lier. Cognizant never pays 145k to Senior Associate… I’ve been there a while and I know all in and out. He doesn’t have masters and Deloitte offering him 165k$+15k joining bonus and 17% performance bonus. I don’t believe without masters how he got offer of 165k.

WLB depends on the project you are assigned to, so it’s a risk the you will need to manage. I have been fortunate with all my projects at D, been here for 15 years already, there are crunch times of course, but WLB for me has always been very manageable. Also, do you want to move to Charlotte? Moving can be costly. What prospects of moving up or earning more at Cognizant? There is a good upside with D, but you need to actively build a network.

In Deloitte you will have to work hard to create network and dependency. It will take time and tough competition. Work culture is different in Deloitte. If you have good hardskill but lack softskill then you won’t grow in Deloitte. It depends if you want to get out of comfort zone.

Move to Deloitte!!! The good: Much better organization and long term career prospects. Brand is strong and will carry with you very long term. You'll hit a plateau at CTS and will be very difficult to grow from there. Deloitte SC is the perfect level to join. You'll have time to understand and navigate the firm in your growth. Great company overall. You're not seeing many other benefits that aren't on your offer letter like pension pay, $1000/year for investing in your health like gym memberships, sports equipment, Apple watch, etc. Free tax filing service, higher 401k company contribution, discounted public transport commuting expenses and a range of other benefits. Pay will jump faster compared to CTS. growth will also be faster compared to CTS. Deloitte invests heavily in learning. You can take any course and get certified in anything especially hot should l skills all paid by firm. You'll have free access to all major learning platforms. Due to the nature of work, as you grow you'll work with people from different range of skills. That'll help you grow a lot. You'll have better understanding of business and strategy. Deloitte doesn't have a hierarchical structure. You don't report to a manager that makes your life changing decisions. You're on your own supported by a coach and a set of leaders. If you don't like a project & manager in it, you can move out (just not when market is bad coz utilization is a key metric). So you have lot of flexibility in how you navigate your career. You'll get out of opportunities to work on latest and greatest in technology. You'll be amazed at the levels of partnerships Deloitte has with who's who of technology and product companies. You'll also be surprised seeing how clients treat Deloitte employees compared to other outsourcing organizations. It's night and day. Deloitte maintains relationships with client organizations at all levels all the way up to CEO and board. So there is a different perception of an organization like Deloitte and it's peers compared to technology outsourcing companies within clients. The bad: WLB will suck. Better be prepared for it. You'll learn to work it out. You may find a project that is in your sweet spot. You'll learn to cherish those. Rest will suck. It's the nature of the business. There is also a lot of smugness you'll notice. Firm is too big and very different culture. You'll have to work hard and invest your time in understanding the culture. If you don't or can't adjust into it, life will be very unpleasant. If you ignore then you'll quickly go out of loop and struggle to see growth. Cut throat competition between peers. So be aware of that.
