Which of these would be good in terms of career growth/job security, WLB for a software engineering manager role? Current TC : 175K
How much TC is fidelity offering? Their pay is mostly low
Not sure but from what I’ve heard about travelers stay FAR AWAY.
Travelers has low TC, despite having some decent benefits. Growth/ promotions can take a long time. Being a software engineering manager at Travelers usually means being a SWE1 or 2 and volunteering to manage a few people. The company tries hard to not offer full remote. WLB is hit or miss depending on line of business & team.
I agree with @Rakoon. TC - It’s low compared to other companies. They’ve updated TC 2 years ago, buts still low. Growth/Promotion - this one is hard. If you’re the type that expects growth with hard work/grinding, @travelers is not it. You can produce high quality code, lead engagements, but won’t mean anything for promotion. It’s about how you promote yourself and getting good with certain folks. Technology - we are not cutting edge. Some departments are bleeding (Claim, BSI), others are not. Our stack is pretty predictable Stability - this one is always the selling point of Travelers. If you make it here, it’s common to see folks work here 20+ years. They do layoffs, but they are small normally, and the company is very conservative and don’t make risky decisions (honestly thanks to the current and last CEO). Lately with Farmers Insurance, GEICO, USAA, etc doing layoffs, it’s easy to eyeball Travelers, but the higher ups are pretty good at keeping the boat stable People - very good. Since the stability is good, folks relax a little and open up. It’s not cut throat like a tech company. WLB - again. Depends on department. But usually folks log off after 8-10 hours and that’s it. Yes, the occasional projects require a late night or two, but that’s nothing then the expectations of tech companies. They are cutting hard on remote work. Usually 3 onsite, 2 off. Don’t even think of being offsite on Friday as a lot of folks take that day as the offsite (wfh)
Well put
Thank you !
Salary Range is $125,900.00 – $207,800.00 for Technology Lead/Manager to give you an idea. Starting salary probably will be around 155-160 maybe. No idea on the manager bonus pool. Maybe 10-20% Travelers usually pays around the median of the local salary in the area. You may be able to negotiate for more. Lower level employees are usually 2-6% annual raises. Managers are a different pay band so are different. Career growth can happen. But as you get closer to the top you have to wait for a position to open for promotion.
