I was wondering what a fair base pay range looked like for UX Designers based in Chicago/remote looked like. The range (85-100k) I was given was much lower than expectations, but I’m wondering if my perspective is just skewed because I’m used to HCOL. Also: how do I navigate salary talk before the interview process? The recruiter wanted me to confirm my salary range before interviewing formally and I’m uncomfortable with that (no leverage since they haven’t decided to hire me yet). Do I just say I’m comfortable with the range now and negotiate later? Do I throw out a low number within my range and attempt to negotiate for more if I get an offer? Poll for fair rate for entry level (2+ YOE) UX designers with companies based out of Chicago, if you’re currently at Sprout Social I’d appreciate your input on what working there has been like!#design #interviews #ui/ux #chicago #compensation #salaries #negotiate TC: 135k

I’ve worked with a PM from Sprout. Ask hard questions and be sure you’re perspectives and roles are clearly defined about the UX, especially as it relates to user research. The PM didn’t believe in any type of user research, not sure that was him or part of the culture. Just something to look out for.
Woah, that’s good to know. Hopefully it’s not part of the culture, seeing as how they seem invested in social media engagement/sentiment tracking. Thanks for the tip!
