I'm currently working on azure at microsoft. I have been with microsoft for 4 years. Recently I have been offered two oportunities for jobs at different companies. One of the jobs at oracle as senior. The other job offer is sde2 at amazon. I heard that senior at oracle = sde2 at amazon. They have similar pay and it is more than my current job. I'm trying to decide the best option for my career growth. Should I stay at azure, join oracle or join amazon? How is the culture difference between the three? Which one will look better on my resume and which one will help me advance in my career? Is it easy to join microsoft again if I left? Thanks for your help,
In Amazon which team or Org ? What’s your goal behind this move ?
Amazon/AWS will look better on paper, except maybe to people who know better. Oracle you can have more individual ownership and impact if in OCI. OCI and AWS culture are similar, but Amazon’s is more mature.
Yeah, It is OCI. Could you please explain more what makes oci better in terms of giving the chance to more individual ownership? Like how the work is getting assigned or what they are doing differently?
In my experience, it’s less typically “assigned.” Needs are rooted out by engineers. Solutions are proposed to management by engineers. Solutions are then built by engineers. Leadership largely sets high-level strategic product direction and goals, but for the tactical plans and execution, it’s as bottom-up as you want it to be. Where I’ve seen this not be the case is when a team doesn’t execute on the goal. Then management can get prescriptive. But I consider that a failure by all parties involved.
Oracle OCI is still very new. Lots of growing pain, immature management and culture
If you are looking for a good culture, check out Box. It's really great! PM me for a referral.
Which level are you in MS? Also which team in MS and what's your general feelings about the team?

What is OCI? I’m intrigued
Oracle cloud
If it was AWS, then the answer was clear. But going from Azure to Amazon, I don't know. Oci kinda feels better that way.
Azure has amazing problems to solve and amazing growth. I think your problem is finding the opportunities to get recognized. You need to realize in life that running around from job to job to try and get a slightly better deal isn’t nearly as effective as trying to create a better situation where you are. All these companies are growing, but the best overall business opportunity is Azure. You should spend some time trying to connect with your manager in 1:1’s and let him know that you want a long term growth path and what his expectations are from you to make it happen. If your manager isn’t helping, look for a move within Azure, there is no shortage of opportunities . Just make sure you move somewhere where you know the manager cares about you and your growth. Of course this is all contingent upon you being willing to work beyond the box of your job definition and assignments. You need to show you care about the overall success of the company with your actions, and aren’t just punching a clock and doing the minimum. Of course that attitude will help no matter where you go.
Looking for another opportunity with the same sad salary? Instead why not go to AWS, where the future isn't any less brighter plus a comp bump and level bump? No one owes their loyalty to a company neither the company will for you.
Try to get a counter offer?
I'm still negotiating but I care less about the money.
