I'm not enjoying my current role at Stripe very much and I have an offer from Netflix for a team that looks interesting. The offers are comparable and both are based out of the Bay area. I'm inclined to take it up, but worried about growth opportunities and the keeper test at Netflix. I am visa dependent and have a young family, so I'm getting the jitters accepting the offer. Please help me decide! YOE: 8 Edit 1: I'm getting a lot of DMs for referrals. Please understand that I can't refer so many people who I don't know. Referrals are meaningless if I can't vouch for the candidate and will likely be ignored anyway. Edit 2: I've accepted the offer at Netflix ! 🤞 #software #swe #engineering #netflix #offers #stripe #google #meta #apple #amazon #senior #bayarea #offer
Hey, can I DM you if you could please connect me with the recruiter at Netflix and also refer me at Stripe?
I worked with the hiring manager at Netflix directly. Don't have a recruiter I can connect you with. Stripe isn't hiring much in the US, but if you find a role, DM me. I'll take a look.
I am currently based in Berlin, Germany and looking for a backend engineering role everywhere.
How is Stripe doing currently? I see they are hiring aggresively
What stock price is your Stripe TC based on? This could be a no-brainer.
It doesn't matter. Stripe does ARG. I get a fixed dollar amount in stocks every year irrespective of price.
But when your stock is vested, it is still translated to certain number of units(Fixed dollar amount / some sort of internal price at the time of vest), right?
Don’t be a pu55y! You are a capable engineer, you can definitely make it at Netflix. Join and collect that cheque. Don’t forget to diversify your investment portfolio. I would say good luck but you won’t need it. Happy New Year motheducker!

Lol. Thanks for the pep talk Microsoft! Happy new year to you too! 🙌
If you have already received the offer you should ask to meet the hm and ask the same question. Be open that given visa situation it’s an extra risk for you. Ask how the performance is measured and how much time does a new joiner gets before they are expected to show impact. Check how many were let go before becoz of keeper test. You should also talk to 2-3 colleagues….Here’s the rationale. It’s actually known practice to ask to meet the hm and colleagues after receiving offer. Don’t feel shy. Don’t be afraid they will rescind offer, they won’t.
Talking to future colleagues is a good suggestion. I'll follow up on that. As for the HM, he seems like a reasonable guy and the interviewers had great things to say about him. My understanding is that new hires get 4-6 months to ramp up and start delivering. Depends on the project and ramp required. HM says attrition due to keeper test is in line with industry standard and not much higher. 🤷
What’s the industry standard? I am in the process of interviewing with Netflix and surprisingly all my interviewers have been at the company for more than 6 years. The team I am interviewing for, their average tenure is 6.5 years. I found this to be quite surprising. I feel when my HM told me these numbers, it did not include the keeper test.
Can you please share your interview prep?
Unrelated questions: - What were your interviews like? - What is the “keeper test”?
All my interviews were with members of the team I'll be joining. I had 3 coding rounds, 2 design rounds, 1 manager chat, 1 chat with a product partner team and a final chat with the director. Coding rounds were fairly standard. One of the interviews did go into discussions about intractable problems and how to identify them. Design rounds were more detailed and focused on the areas that the team is working on. Rest of the interviews were mostly to see culture fit and other soft skills. See Netflix culture deck to read about the keeper test: https://jobs.netflix.com/culture
This is super helpful thanks
Is it Cloud Infra team or Content / Streaming team ?
No, neither. Not revealing the team as that might dox me.
