Amazon recruiters be salesman

Everyone must have been approached by amazon recruiters. I did too, unfortunately by some weirdo. I have been consistently receiving linkedin msgs from amazon recruiters. One day I thought of giving 1 recruiter a shot. He told me that he will schedule a call to talk more about my profile and what sort of role suits me well. I gave him my phone number and email address. Next morning I saw that he directly scheduled a call with some HM. I'm like ok, and I went for the call directly with that manager. After the call since I didn't like the team, I told the recruiter to schedule a call with me so I can explicitly state my interests. The recruiter again shooted an email saying after reviewing your profile I feel this team is right fit for you so talk to the hiring manager. I'm like "Arrrrgh", but still went for the call and still did not like the team. This time I strongly told to recruiter that before scheduling call with another HM pls call me and understand more about what I'm interested in and what type of role I want. He then scheduled a call for next day. Next day when he called me, he said -----> "I have scheduled your call with another XYZ manager. Trust me you will love his team. People from GOOGLE, FB and Apple are dying to join this team, but since it is a very important team we are very selective of who we interview. You will have ample of learning opportunities here". I was disappointed but still went for the call. After this I called the recruiter and was sort of pissed of saying I still did not like the team and said I am not passionate about security(all 3 teams were security org) These were the recruiters words -->> "Why don;t you like the team? Security is an awesome field where you will grow really fast and learn a lot. Billions of dollars are invested in the field and still you don't want to be a part of it"? I politely ghosted the recruiter. Current L62 at MSFT yoe 3 TC: 240k

You ghosted the recruiter. Good for you!

Well, recruiters at amazon can be pipped too if they donā€™t meet the criteria. Itā€™s stressful for them too for filling the role. I would say you should be humane at least to everyone. When I see recruiters from other companies they are such a dick. Donā€™t even reach out or if you reach out to them they ghost you. So, I would say it is what it is. If recruiters wonā€™t have that criteria of hitting the conversion then they will barely reach out to anyone on LinkedIn

That doesn't mean acting desperate and misleading the person to some position where the engineer isn't fit or doesn't have the interests aligned. If you really want to care so much and want a change then Amazon should get rid of the PIP criteria.

I agree but if your job is tied to how many people you convert then it is a different issue. Do you get it? In other companies, HRs are usually chill. Even for single posting which they get resumes even 50. They shortlist maybe 5-6 for calls. They donā€™t have to do aggressive reach outs. Honestly, mocking someone just if they are reaching you out with opportunities is kinda childish and uncalled for imo.

Recruiters there are aligned with a team/org so if you didn't like the team just pass and hope whoever reaches out next is more interesting.

Iā€™m a Recruiter and that is some douche nonsense. Lazy and lame! Good for you. I would have emailed him in all caps YOU DID NOT LISTEN. GOODBYE.

Amazon hi5help Oct 5, 2021

Okay DM me with relevant teams if you didnā€™t listen I will treat you the same

Microsoft navunaam OP Oct 5, 2021

@hi5help. Are you a recruiter or a HM?

Amazon rustacean Oct 5, 2021

Recruiters work with specific teams or orgs. This recruiter isnā€™t looking at every opportunity in Amazon to find a good fit for you, they are looking strictly in security because thatā€™s who they work for.

Microsoft navunaam OP Oct 5, 2021

Then they should be straight forward and let me know about it. I explicitly stated him that I'm not interested in security. What is the point in wasting my time, his time and the HM's time?

Itā€™s the same thing car salesman do. Letā€™s make you believe A) this is all the inventory you can shop from (and not tell you that the model/color/package you want is at a dealership 30mi from here) and B) also build excitement like everyone has been eyeing this car and if you donā€™t buy it, it will be gone
