I don’t mean those of us who write a few dozen lines of code a month and call ourselves engineers. I mean real engineers who design and implement solutions for bridges, buildings, manufacturing machinery, airplanes, boats etc. I talked to one of my friends who designs engines for Navy warships and the complexity of his job and the sheer intellect… Jesus. Meanwhile he makes $78k TC and has to actually constantly work. He will never, ever make more than $120k TC (if he’s lucky) until he becomes a manager in 15 years. Are we real engineers?
All of the things the "real" engineers are building are better with "few dozen lines of code"
The people at coca-cola would totally be on board with that. I'm sure
TIL coca cola doesn't have software for any of its factory machinery, distribution, supply chain, vending machinery, website, app, marketing, etc
Difference is “fake” engineers can automate most of what “real” engineers do with “a few lines of code”.
We literally influence hundreds of millions of lives with few lines of code. They get paid low for a reason. Do you think someone working at a construction site or a garbage collector should be making more money? There are landlords who absolutely do nothing and make more money than any engineer. Your view is extremely naive.
Yeah because they own the assets. They don’t need to be wage slaves
Great job #ReadyForWork, you figured out how money works
Lol “real engineers” Go back to your mommy and get some toys, you haven’t grown up yet
“Are we real engineers?” No, we are Dev…. o
In their defense, OP calls them “real engineers” because the engineers he mentioned need to take a certification test every couple of years to retain their engineering license. We software engineers do not have to do that and therefore not “real engineers”
There’s a dude I know who went to a 3 months JavaScript bootcamp and tells people he is an engineer
You may need to look up the meaning of the term of you think engineering is something you get with a degree.
Apple to orange comparison. Software has better scalability and distribution.
Its like people complaining about wnba players not making as mucj
thats why most of us "real engineers" switched over lol
What the hell did I just read... We're real engineers and so are they. We all should be paid just as high as the executives.
Just wait till you hear what the pay in Europe for the same role
Just wait till you hear what the pay in Asia is for the same role
Yeah I’m aware of Europe pay That’s crazy. You go on Reddit and it’s praised as a haven yet they make 1/3rd that of the USA. Asia at least has super cheap cost of living. Europe does not.
