I have an offer from Stripe but it is a clear down level (in title and comp, TC is 100k+ less than another FAANG offer). I was super excited about Stripe and the role until this which is making me think twice. Would love to hear impressions of Stripe (good and bad), PM culture there, growth opportunities etc.
Stripe titling is odd, down-titling should almost be expected. I don’t think that will be too negotiable, I think even pushing back on just the title may compromise the offer. They like flatness and lack of titles, so it could be interpreted the wrong way as an ego thing. I’m surprised that their comp isn’t competitive. Maybe they just aren’t looking for someone as senior as you? Do you know the level of the person you report into? Perhaps that’s a ceiling that they can’t move. Otherwise I’ve heard generally they generally compete well with FANG for comp.
Everything to this. Stripe’s very flat and I wouldn’t index too much on the title. But I am surprised about the comp. We are far more competitive.
Even post-2023, comp is still FAANG competitive? Wasn’t sure if it was them trying to stay super tight.
Sorry QQ on the role though - how did you find the writing exercise?

I’m curious. If it is clearly down level with salary being over 100k lower than another offer, why are you even considering it?
I like(d?) the shape of the role and externally think highly of the culture and product, but tbh if they cannot raise title, comp, or both I will probably be forced to not consider it (still in talks with them to see what can be done) So just doing my diligence here as that’s going.
The culture is objectively garbage, read the reviews on Blind. In fact their reviews were so bad a couple of years ago I think the company addressed it publicly
