Is this enough weight for bench press
(Not in Grab) Today after getting what I thought to be an unfair 'slightly above expectation' grade. My lead (who helped calibrate the grade) basically just said, all these performance rubric between mid, senior, senior++ is useless, bottomline is how valuable you are to the company/manager.. TC ~105k SGD depending on bonus, YOE ~2.5
Welcome to the corporate world and a downturn.
If the calibration process is anything like my company, they only give the top grade to the top 10% performers. Itâs possible someone else worked way harder and achieved more than whatâs expected from their role. This is very normal.
Yeah it sucks the first time you realize there are quotas in calibration (and you think you were kicking ass) but it is how the system works. Figure out how to navigate it.
Absolutely right. To top that, my company has a stupid policy of salary caps for a given grade. If someone is in the higher range of salary in their band, itâs highly likely they ll get promoted without a raise.
The whole point of you working for a company is to produce value. Rubrics are meant to measure aspects of how much value you produce without saying âmake us more moneyâ. Itâs possible to try hard and produce nothing of value. Focus on high value activities (what does your manager want most / what would make the company the most money?)
While I completely agree with this, some of the leads here might not.. They want to brainlessly refactor this and that for no good reason at all other than subjective 'readability' or 'elegance', how do i convince them that some of the refactoring stuff is just fruitless? -_-
Sounds accurate. From you leadâs point of view, this is how managers think and only THEN do they take ppl with low value to map towards some grade/rating
Why is it toxic?
Bcs i put so much effort into doing things to 'tick' the boxes of the next level in the rubric to get more than 'slightly above expectation', since they said this is what the engineers will be judged against, but then after that lead said the rubric itself is meaningless... đ
If you put in all that effort, you can now reapply it in the right area and be successful. If you get disheartened and give up, youâll only grow bitter. Be grateful to your lead. Itâs that ârealâ advice that will propel your career.
