Is working for Oil company Chevron considered unethical?
Well, if you have to, you have to. Gotta eat
Sure but tech companies do plenty of unethical things too
Yes. It is unethical. Many companies do unethical things, Microsoft included (ICE contracts, military contracts, probably contracts with fuel companies). But not all companies are the exact industry that is currently destroying the world. However, the climate crisis is not your fault, and you won’t stop it by not taking a job at Chevron. The only way to stop the climate crisis is collective action. Unionize and demand Chevron stop poisoning the earth.
Looks like you are poisoning the earth and you paying chevron to help you do it.
Exactly. But if you live anywhere in the US besides NYC, you can basically not avoid using cars to get around. We need better transit infrastructure. Subways and trams everywhere, dedicated bus lanes, regional electric rail. Bike infrastructure and safe places to walk. When we have that, cars can be useful for moving and disabled mobility. This problem is not on any individual person. It’s on us as a group to solve.
It’s no less ethical than working for Facebook.

High pay, meaningless work
No. Eco nuts might fly to your city, then drive on the paved roads to you house to hold up plastic signs, wearing polyester cloths and rubber soled shoes, to tell you that you are evil for making these things for them to consume.
why not?
You would literally be making the world safer and more comfortable for billions of people. Why is that unethical? If these people didn’t want oil products, they should move back to the cave, and you can work somewhere else.
