I’m an E6 elsewhere, but received an E5 offer from Databricks. Is downleveling at Databricks worth it? I’d be willing to grow into an E6 role there instead of transferring in as an E6, if the culture is worth it. TC: $475
There was a mega post title "don't join databricks". Worth reading that
No, promotion at db are super tough from what I heard, plus all the other bad things people are mentioning.
What are the bad things about db? I see many threads that say db is bad without saying whTats bad about it.
Ok, from what I heard: - bad wlb for senior+ - slow promo to staff+ - too many cooks in the kitchen (too many L6+ fighting for scope) - no timeline for ipo -aggressive pip (but not sure about this one)
Never go down in level unless you have to. Promotions are always a gamble. You can be a high performer and display all the correct behavior and still never get the promotion.
Depends on the place you are L+1. If it's a non relevant company, then downlevelling is actually normal and expected.
Never take a down level unless this is your first time breaking into FAANG (databricks isn't). Tell them to no, but you would accept if they level you appropriately. All that will happen is you will get very salty when you realize the current E6 are clowns and you are better than they are.
bar of E6 is very high at databricks. the eng at e6 are actually quite good here in depth as well as breadth. promo to e6 here is generally quite difficult.
