What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I need some diverse opinions on my compensation working at a startup. Below is the breakdown. Base: $70k Options // paper $: $5k YoE: 2.5 yrs, at company for 2 yrs Location: NYC Role: integrated marketing + crm manager I feel like it’s a given that I’m underpaid but what should my comp be? I like the company but feel like I’m getting taken advantage of. #marketing #tech #salary
Without question, you're underpaid
Not really based on the role description. Is that not a log of money to live in NYC? Hell yes. But being underpaid isn't dependant on cost of living
Ah whoops, you're totally right. I just immediately assumed it was a swe role
That sounds like normal comp for that role, at a startup, in NYC. You can improve your comp by going to a tech company or by changing positions - sales may be a good high paying option for you
August is a new fiscal year for many corporations. Start interviewing again. Freezes are lifted and new headcounts approved. Not sure if you’re ‘underpaid’ but that is a difficult livable wage and worth exploring other options if you have them.
You just working at the wrong company buddy
Entry level roles in tech/fintech are paying $65k-$70k in HCOL areas. So yes you are heavily underpaid, especially for a manager role/title. Should be getting minimum around 90k.
Honestly, some Uber drivers make more.
I know integrated marketing managers fresh out of college at startups being $90 with 2500 options worth $40-50k). You are vastly underpaid
Sounds normal for nyc and that role. Stay for a year go somewhere else for 120
How can anyone survive off of 70K in NYC?
Lots of Roommates
They survive just like the other 70% of people in NYC who make below 70k. It’s honestly not that hard.
Not every role will get sky high tc. I have no clue what you do, why do you think you’re underpaid?
Partly because I made it to the final round of interviews for several roles with $120k+ TC before hiring was frozen. I’m also doing three different full time jobs because the company is understaffed
I’m an integrated marketing manager and CRM manager.
