Glad need such articles for visibility https://www.king5.com/amp/article/tech/workers-h1b-visas-tech-layoffs-threaten-future/281-d4ec9128-f0d1-4ff3-be6a-bedcaf17cf0d
Curious. If the husband and wife are both working and one of them gets laid off, both are eligible to remain in the US as long as they are not both laid off right?
Usually one of the has the work visa (L1, H1B) and the other has the dependent visa (L2, H4). If the main visa drops, the dependent drops as well.
Is going from L2 or H4 to L1 or H1B visa for the person not laid offmore difficult than the person that was laid off finding a new job and maintaining the current visa status?
But does such articles change laws? There have been many such articles and change proposals for years for GC, but nothing has changed. I came across a SDE recently who is hardly able to debug the code, doesn’t know how to use the IDE properly and wasn’t showing much interest in learning it. We all were having a casual discussion around visa’s and he said he will get GC within a year or two and can freely continue staying in US. I felt bad for people who are actually smart and either can’t continue staying here due to visa issues.
🙄
Treat the H1B folks and their families like human beings or just scrap the program altogether.
