Career Confused

Long post alert!! Blind Family I’m in need of your expert advice, please help! ## Graduated last year with Masters in CS with major as DS. I wanted to work as DS but figured that most companies won’t hire unless I’ve PHD or I’m master in python and statistics which I’m not. So decided to settle as BA/DA as I liked to work on SQL, Tableau, Excel and Python. Then deloitte offer came across and they said that they will give training for AWS and I can work on any role which I like! Sounded intimating at that time (wanted a job ASAP, deloitte is a good name, can work in skills of my choice) Confusion started when my first role had me work on skills such as SQL, Qlik view which I liked but also front end tools which I don’t like. Also this role ended because of some client- consultant conflict just when I was ready with front end as well as visualisation tools knowledge. So I thought of being a SWE developer but realised that I don’t like to code that much all the time. I want money and I want to do something which keeps me interested or helps me help company grow profit or sales or anything. Recently I’ve came across multiple options or may I put as in demand roles: 1.) Be a BA and then go ahead in product ownership role and further as TPM but I have heard that they are pretty competitive role for a BA, and also BA role is very common if I want more money I should have skills or do something which less people do. 2.) Get some role in CMS at deloitte and understand AWS cloud more in detail like the whole back end front end integration and everything. I’m not clear on which skills I will be required to get this role and even if I do how much in demand will this be (maybe 10 years from now) One of the manager suggested me to get AWS Solutions Architect certificate, said might help me on getting role in CMS and the another manager said that Architect certificate is too soon to have in my stage! 3.) Just get JAVA expertise and be a developer cause that pays money. 4.) Just change the company and find some good position in Tech industry! My end goal is to be at a higher position in management/ leadership and impact people and have a helping hand in running an organisation! I’ve no idea how to get there or what choices to make. I’m up to look at other options too! Thank you for reading this post.

Unless you want to move into consulting, Deloitte sucks, just go to a tech company, better pay, more fun. If you want to ‘move company’, then PM is the role, how to get there is another question. DAs often become query monkeys. BA is very vague. Maybe join tech as a DA and work towards PM, might be easier in a data product company.

No I don’t want to move into consulting. I’m thinking of changing company but just don’t have good enough experience to pen it down on resume!

Your post is very conflicting, you want the highest paycheck possible and don't enjoy coding, but then you suggest becoming an SWE. Just join big tech as BA/BIE and work yourself up to DS. I've seen plenty of colleagues with just a bachelor degree doing fine. Just leave Deloitte man.

Sure thank you! I’ll look into that
